Car Audio Tour Confusing
Oct 2021
We chose to see the arboretum via car tour due to an older person in our party. Once you download the APP, it was very general without a lot of detailed information. Also, although the speed limit is posted by 25 MPH, to stay up with the audio recording, we had to go faster and push play at each new stop. Overall this part of this museum was not well done which is too bad. The grounds were nice and the gift shop had many interesting items including for children.

Absolutely stunning landscapes

It’s very clear that so much love and attention is poured into the grounds of this beautiful arboretum. There are so many different areas to explore. If you love nature and it’s beauty, you won’t be disappointed. There is a fee to enter, and while I can’t remember what it was, we felt it was more financially sensible to just become members. So we did. I would encourage everyone who lives close enough to visit all four seasons.

Never disappoints.

Beman and Bertie Dawes created The Arboretum in 1929. There are 15,400 plants on grounds on almost 2,000 acres. Take the “tunnel” over to Arboretum East consisting of woodlands, a pond, agriculture fields and a gorge not to be missed. The trails are well marked and you can download a map from their website. The visitor center is still closed due to covid but the restrooms are open. Every season is different and beautiful. Climb up the 36-foot Observation Tower and check out the 2,040-foot-long Hedge Lettering, spelling out Dawes Arboretum. Admission price is $10 per person, but worth every penny and more! Definitely consider becoming a member if you live in the area. This place is dog friendly too! You can also do a “self driving” tour of the entire property in your car.

Wow!

Absolutely gorgeous outdoor space with plenty to see. Handicap accessible, and you'll need a couple of hours to see it all (3-4 to see the whole place). Beautiful views any season. Well worth a stop!

A World-Class Arboretum
Jul 2020
Dawes Arboretum in Newark, OH is a world-class arboretum in my view due to the huge variety of trees and shrubs that have been so carefully tended on the premises. The trees are very well labeled and the property is meticulously maintained. I visited the arboretum one afternoon, but one could easily spend a whole day absorbing the sheer variety and beauty of the place. The trails are well marked and the auto-tour helps people who want to enjoy the place with a little less effort. Some important features not to miss are: the Parkwoods trail, the Observation tower to view the lettering hedge spelling the name Dawes Arboretum, the Japanese Garden, the Daweswood Memorial Tree trail, the trail to the Log Cabin, and the Cypress Swamp. The Red Barn and the East section are also worth visiting.

The entrance fee of $10 per person looked reasonable after my visit. Dawes Arboretum is well worth visiting. A lovely place to commune with nature.

Not Worth Cost
Oct 2019
We visited the Arboretum a few times a year. The Arboretum is not nice enough to justify the new cost for admission.

Beautiful and well kept place

Dawes Arboretum is a huge facility with a fabulous collection of a wide variety of trees and shrubs that are mostly well marked. The trails are well marked as well. The fact that they now charge should not deter anyone because it is well worth the price of admission. We got on in a reciprocal membership which was readily accepted. A lovely place to commune with nature.
