I visited on a day the museum was celebrating Thomas Edison's 175th birthday so tours were free. I would have gladly paid as the guide was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging and I found the tour fascinating. The birthplace home is more about what is was like for Thomas and his family to live in Milan in the mid-1800's. Old family portraits in many rooms helped us learn about how his upbringing formed the foundation for the great inventor he would become. There's a small museum next door that features many items reflective of Thomas as an inventor, and other museums and shops in the small village that carry the Thomas Edison story forward. After the tour you may want to visit Sights & Sounds of Edison and then have lunch at Inventions Cafe!

Lois and Dillion were exceptional tour guides. We were at the location about 90 minutes. Both the museum and the birthplace were full of artifacts and Dillon was enthusiastic in sharing info about the Edison family history and site location.
Worth a stop! We did not schedule a
tour in advance as suggested on the website, but we were lucky Dillon and Lois could graciously accommodate our party of 4.

I have visited about 1500 historic sites and have been trying to get to this one. Though 72, I am like a five-year-old when I experience something new. This one did it! Though small, the museum's sampling of Edison's inventions gave an overview of his genius. The family connections through the furnishings are an edge up on period pieces in many museums. The guide was exceptional, keeping one's attention with amazing facts about an amazing person with a vibrancy as if that was her first tour of the day.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect of this museum and was afraid it would be a short 15-minute in and out tour. I was wrong. The first part is a short tour in the ticket office that highlights some of Mr. Edison’s inventions, then a docent gives a guided tour of the Edison birthplace home. You visit all three floors and there are a lot of original furnishings, photos, and belongings. Our tour took a little over an hour and was very informative. Well worth going out of your way to visit.

We really enjoyed visiting the Thomas Edison House and Museum. My favorite part of it was hearing the record played on the 1916 phonograph. I was amazed at the clarity of the sound! The house is adorable. Our docent Eve was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We learned a lot we had never known before about Thomas Edison and his family. My favorite part of the house was seeing the bedspread that Thomas Edison's mother had knit and crocheted with teeny-tiny knitting needles. It was beautiful, as well as her graduation dress. We would highly recommend this tour!

From the outside Edison's home in Milan looks like a pretty small house, but it is so full of history on the inside. The guided tour through the home gives you a detailed story of the house, the people who lived their, and even a bit about the history Milan, Ohio itself. The folks that run the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum are very passionate about telling the story of Thomas Edison and his life. As a geek history enthusiast I've wanted for years to visit Edison's home in Milan and finally was able to fit a stop into one of our road trips. So glad I did!

Our tour guide, Cindi, was so welcoming, informative, delightful and knowledgeable about Thomas Edison, his inventions, his family, the home, the clothing, the furniture and the customs! She had been doing tours for twelve years and research on her own. A native of Milan, her love of the community and history shined through!

Everything but one item in the home had been owned by the Edison family. We felt like we were magically transported to Edison’s era. The home and contents were in excellent condition. The small office held some more inventions, books, gift items and a very pleasant hostess. The grounds were scenic, offering many spots for photos. The hour tour was well worth the cost of admission. We would highly recommend a visit!

Best tour of this vacation. I had no idea that Thomas Edison was born in Ohio. The house was pristine, lots of furniture, clothing, tools to see. The best part was the story telling and getting that glimpse into the inventors life. Extremely informative, thorough and made it come alive.

The tour guides love their job and it shows.

Worth every penny. Hands down.

My dad said it was worth the 60 year wait!

We are debating what we loved the most, either the building and museum or our tour guide. This location is so well maintained and well worth the time to visit. Our tour guide "Maylee", really knew her stuff and we were so thrilled to find out she is a high school student. With both of us being in education, we wish more students would get involved with history like this. We have been to the facility in Forth Myers, and up to Dearborn to see the Menlo Park lab there as well. We have NJ on the bucket list and this place is a must for any Edison enthusiast. Very well done! A full review and video will be on our blog site soon.

We enjoyed our tour of Edison’s birthplace. Debbie gave a well spoken, highly documented talk through the house pointing out many unusual and interesting artifacts. The house has been kept in very good condition. Edison’s life is very inspiring!
