This is one of the nicest & BIGGEST beaches on Lake Erie and always well maintained! There's a huge parking area, changing buildings, and even a great natural dunes area on the East side. It's also well guarded.

All the reviews were good so I decided to make a stop in Mentor, OH to visit this beach, but the day I picked there was a swimming advisory and the waters were really gross. Maybe next time...

The beach has a natural feel with cottonwoods, dunes, and driftwood strewn beaches. The beach is groomed but not overgroomed to the point of being sterile. The water is usually clean; check for water advisories including rip current and waves before visiting because Lake Erie can get rough in a hurry. Pack a picnic lunch or use the park's grilling... I never thought of Ohio or Lake Erie for Sunsets, I do now. We didn't get there until just before sunset so we didn't see much of the park. The Beach was clean and there is lots of parking. The Sunset was a 10. Lots of different angles for pic's.

This is the second favorite attraction in Mentor. Granted, there is no entrance fee and there is nothing much at all in this Archi-Bunker kind of a big town. If you are a chain-store shopper, you may like it, otherwise... Big parenthesis to say that cleanliness at this beach has gone down drastically in the last ten years. The water... More

I had kind of low expectations. I am from Central Ohio, I haven't seen the beaches along Erie and I didn't expect Headlands to be that great but I was curious so we took a road trip and spent half a day here hiking the nearby Buckeye Trail and the Sand Dunes Nature Preserve next to Headlands Beach. I loved... More

I grew up in Mentor, so going to the beach was always something to do to kill a summer day. The beach is so big, that even on a crowded day there is always plenty of room so nobody is ever on top of anybody. The beach offers a walking path right off the parking lot, which is nice if... More

Me and my husband had a lot of fun looking here for beach glass. I also found a lot of pretty rocks to take home. The beach was really nice and the lighthouse was pretty cool at the end of the beach. There are restrooms near the parking area and tons and tons of parking

A state beach park (no entry fee), this is a beautiful spot with plenty of sand for playing, building and relaxing. There is ample (free) parking. Concessions are available, though you can bring your own food and there are grills and picnic tables throughout the park. There is a nice walking path along the beach (though the water view is... The festival lacked a little, although we really enjoyed the sand sculptures, the booths and the food there just was not enough of anything to keep you there that long. The biggest problem though with Headleadlands beach is the walk to get to the water. It is quite a walk on the sand to actually get to the water and... More
