Our family reunion group rented bike from Marietta Adventure Company. The riders were a mixture of adults and teenage girls - most of us did not have a lot of previous experience on bikes. The staff was patient with us in selecting the right size bike for each person and gave us good recommendations on where to ride. The rate for the bikes also seemed like a good value. Our group enjoyed riding on the trail along the river, through the neighborhood around 5th street, and through the campus of Marietta College.…

My 15 year old son, his friend and myself rented Mountain Bikes to day trip ride around the trails in Marietta. Folks here were super nice, very knowledgeable and the equipment was high-end, in great shape and a great value. Loved the experience. My son plans to return to rent the bike he had for our upcoming weekend at Blackwater Falls. …

I return to home town Marietta every summer and have enjoyed a kayak paddle via MAC for the past 5 years. This town is fortunate to have such an outfitter, and thus far they have proven to be a viable service that I'd use again and recommend to others. The company offers a wide selection of good kayaks, a fair pricing schedule, a variety of waterways and paddle length options, and a willingness to accommodate a group's schedule or preferences. Here are a few tips for first timers to the area, whether new to the sport or not, wanting to do a self guided paddle: - weekdays allow more flexibility for shuttle times than weekends - weekdays allow more privacy on the waterways than weekends - they will offer a good boat reco for first time paddlers - more experienced paddlers will appreciate their Carolina kayaks - though less stable, Carolinas are faster than the wider models - they offer various length and width sit on and sit in kayaks - paddle and vests are provided with boat; nothing more - you'll need to complete a liability form, along with payment - you'll want 1-2 qts of water, hat, snacks, sunscreen & camera - the boats' sealed compartments are inconvenient while seated - for camera readiness, a freezer bag in secure pocket works best - dress for water splash, wet seat, and possible wet feet - bag and secure all gear for unlikely but possible rollover - they can advise which waterways are doable, due to water levels - late summer often limits all paddling to the big rivers only - L. Muskingum and Duck Ck feel more outback than the big rivers - half day (4-5 hr) paddle trips are ideal for most outdoor people My favorite paddle has been the Lower Little Muskingum River. It gives one a good taste of the back country creek environment followed by exposure to the Ohio River. After paddling a couple of hours on the narrow channel through the dark woods, its pretty awesome breaking out into the large open river - particularly if you encounter a coal barge. The final paddle past the USFWS island, under the Williamstown bridge, to the Williamstown boat ramp is fun and interesting, though seemingly slower and harder than the first half of the trip. Besides pictures of yourselves in the kayak, I'd suggest you not miss a few specific photo ops, depending on which route you take: - Muskingum River's entry with Devol's Dam in the background - Muskingum River's sternwheeler backgrounds - Muskingum & Ohio River bridge reflections with front of kayak Whether you're a local or tourist, anyone reasonably active wanting an outdoor activity would do well to get out for a paddle. If you need a boat and/or shuttle, MAC's your best shot at making it happen.…
