- catlover00458 contributions"30 Second Calm" during Covid 19These gardens are absolutely beautiful. Lots of work and love have gone into planning and tending the gardens. The positives for our visit during Covid 19 is that everything but the home is outdoors, there was a food truck with delicious food near a patio with tables and chairs (and sanitizing wipes on each table), and it was first Monday so the $5 per person entrance fee was waived. The biggest negative is that most of the gardens were closed off due to extensive construction. (Once finished, the Gardens will be even better.) Also it poured down rain while we were there - only nature to blame. We look forward to returning when everything is opened up.Visited September 2020Written September 10, 2020
- Nancy CChesterbrook, Pennsylvania61 contributionsWanted to stroll the gardensAll of the gardens are spectacular, the house was beautiful. It was decorated for Halloween and they were very creative with the decorations. Pumpkins everywhere, scarecrows were cool, flower arrangements were so pretty. We enjoyed our walk throughout and would stop and sit at various benches and chairs spread out.Visited October 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2021
- WillW1326 contributionsGreat off the beaten path gem!We toured the gardens and the estate on a Saturday morning right after opening. The gardens are immaculately kept and the mansion was interesting to see. We were there about two hours but could have easily stayed longer if we didn’t have tickets already for another attraction that afternoon. Well worth the visit and very affordable!Visited September 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten September 16, 2020
- HASPerrysville, Ohio4 contributionsPay to park! This is a local attraction for me, and I have visited many times. The gardens and grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. However, the man who left this land and home to the community, stated that he wanted it to always be free for people of all socioeconomic status to enjoy. That hasn’t been true for many years now. First they charged $5 per car, now they charge $5 a head. I no longer go to the Violet Show because my husband and I refuse to pay $10 to park. It’s a shame. I know other plant friends who feel the same way.Visited May 2019Written February 19, 2020
- Dustin C1 contributionVery rude and poor customer service skillsMy spouse and myself are members and had some issues even getting admission into the garden center. The website said that members didn’t have to buy tickets for the Christmas at Kingwood Christmas, only guests did, the white haired woman at the front desk was very rude and told us we had to buy tickets as members online, which none were available for days, and when we explained what the website said, she abruptly cut me off, turned us away, and our membership cards weren’t even looked at. After that date night being ruined for myself and my spouse, we have since left a google review with no follow up or reply. Does Kingwood center just not care about its members and more about the money? We haven’t been back since, won’t be donating to your center anymore, and have thrown away our cards because of the way we were treated. I can’t even remember the front desk attendant’s name after the way she handled herself with donating members. Don’t waste your money here.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten January 26, 2023
- jkzooMansfield, Ohio896 contributionsA little disappointing with changes and constructionThe place is going through a major renovation - which for someone who has enjoyed the gardens for over 50 years is kind of disappointing. Maybe when the changes are done it will be exciting and new and I'll love it again. This past weekend's visit was mostly like visiting a construction zone though and not that impressive. Would recommend not visiting for awhile until its settled down. Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately due to different delays, the new areas won't be opening until mid-October. We do believe you'll enjoy the enhanced experience when it is here though. The perennial garden area that was disrupted by the construction is being replanted with an incredible selection of perennials and will now feature a new pavilion and meandering path for guests to stroll. We hope you visit in the fall or the spring to experience it for yourself!Written August 17, 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2020Written August 9, 2020
- Videoteacher54Ashland, Ohio14 contributionsNot what it used to be.Kingwood Center gardens used to be immaculate. Now they look unkept, weedy, wilted, poorly maintained. Not sure if it's the Covid employment issue, but we were VERY disappointed. Especially after paying eight dollars per person to get in. Have some pride. Find some new gardeners. There were weeds everywhere, and the upper gardens were horrible.Visited June 2022Written June 6, 2022

Not sure if it is just the time of the year or if due to the recent cold spell but there really wasn't much in bloom. Not a whole lot to see during our visit. However, the peacocks made up for the lack of color! The birds are beautiful and put on quite a show for us, they were worth the cost of entrance for me!Visited May 2021Written May 17, 2021

It is a nice break away from the city outside the gates. My family and I visited for about 90 minutes and enjoyed the many gardens and the mansion. I have been visiting Kingwood since I was a small child and now I bring my children. It is a beautiful and welcoming place. The plants and flowers are gorgeous. The house is a historic mansion and especially beautiful during Christmas. Definitely a Mansfield must-see location.

Wow - this house is "nice", but the gardens are the attraction. Most plantings are labeled and they are varied. You could spend days here if you like foliage. Minimal fee to enter, but highly recommended to visit again and again.

Beautiful place for a wedding. Gorgeous manicured garden and outdoor space. I did not get a chance to see the entire area as we were there for a wedding. Wedding and cocktail area was outside and wedding was held indoors.

I am not sure - unfortunately, the gardens are on hills. I would most likely recommend Franklin Park Conservatory for someone that has mobility needs.

We have never been there before. It is a 2 hour drive. Is now a good time to visit to see floral displays or should we wait and come a different month (if so, when)? I hear Tulips are good now

Are the peacocks still on the grounds? Thinking about taking my mom in Mother’s Day but don’t see any special events going on, would it still be a good place to go without an event?

I was there a week ago. There were several peacocks wandering around. Had a good time feeding them too.

On average, how much time does it take to walk through the gardens?

We usually spend about 2 hours here. You could spend more or less time depending on how quickly you wanted to move through. We like walking the paths through the woods.
Are there places to sit and rest for seniors that might not be strong enough to stand or walk for the 2-3 hour visit ? Are there wheel chairs for use or rent?
Hi! Yes - we have many benches and tables and chairs to sit and relax in various places in the garden. We also have wheelchairs you can use, or we just started a program for golf cart rentals. For a very small fee, you can rent the golf carts for a three hour period with one of our staff members driving. You can also include a tour guide with the rental, if you like. You can rent straight off of our website.
I hope that helps - Holly

How many public restrooms are available on the grounds? I ask because of someone with Crohn's that would like to go see the gardens. Thank you.
Hi, sorry for the delay in answering your question. We have one set of bathrooms across from the Greenhouse for public use. They have multiple stalls. However, if the mansion is open (see our website for times and days) there are also public restrooms there. Hope that helps!

I can't seem to find the schedule of what flowers are blooming when. I know I've printed it out in the past. Can you help direct me to this information on the website?
Hi! Thanks for asking this question. We actually do not have a What's In Bloom section on our website, but now will consider it. However, please feel free to email me Holly Williams or head gardener, Bill Collins to get information in order to plan an upcoming visit. Our emails are found on the website. Thanks again!
