- crowe525Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio94 contributionsWent with my family of 5 and was really looking forward to a picnic lunch on the top level as the website stated. We paid $5.00 each after parking in a very small lot (make sure you back in so it is not so tight when pulling out). The staff was friendly and the one working inside does a great job answering questions so kudos to him. However, on this day, the top was locked and therefore no picnic at the castle. Extremely disappointed. We still found a picnic table near the river which was nice, but the whole draw for us was to eat in the castle. Wasn't really worthy our time. The history and story is really cool though.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 25, 2024
- Tasha AGales Ferry, Connecticut30 contributionsIt was the first castle my teenage grandkids saw in person. They thought it was cool. Now they can’t wait to see a true castle. In my opinion it was worth the $5 a person cover charge. The staff was friendly and the grounds wasn’t bad.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 17, 2024
- Ms Isis B2 contributionsYou see all environments in 10min. Environments preserved, and the exterior of the construction is beautiful. But they closed the back of the castle to become a kind of marshmallow. That makes noise with a person cutting down boards. You can't walk or sit in a beautiful place around. Maybe if they invested in the outdoor area, the families could spend some time there, turning into a walk of more than 10 minutes.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 26, 2024

Low key activity to help fill your day. We spent about 2 hours there. You are greeted upon entering the home and a staff member gives you a history lesson on how the castle came to be and answered any questions. You tour on your own and admission is $5 per person.

Our grandsons ages 5 & 7 had a day off from school so we made a day trip to visit the castle. There is a “look no touch” policy which was made clear by Sir Thomas upon our entering. Both boys were enamored by the sights and artifacts on display. There are three very interesting short videos totaling 20 minutes. We brought a picnic lunch and sat over looking the Little Miami River.

My wife and I went to a wine tasting event at this Loveland castle- formally called Chateau Laroche- meaning rock castle- north of downtown Loveland, Ohio and enjoyed the event and explored the castle that was constructed over many years by Harry Andrews. There is a video to watch in which Harry discusses the castle, etc. He served in WWI and was motivated to recreate a medieval castle based on those built in Normandy, France. He bought the land in 1927 and started construction in 1929. Harry worked on the castle part time until 1955 when he retired and worked full time on it. It is relatively small but Harry tried to recreate an accurate castle of the by gone era. There were very nice people who gave good information as to the background. Very interesting if you have an interest in the old medieval time period.

The castle was very interesting, and I found it amazing how it was built. Even though it is only a fraction of a real Castle, there was lots of history to look at and read about. I just wish we had went at a time when the flowers were in bloom. I bet the garden area would have been gorgeous. If you’re in the area and you love castles, then this is a must see. It doesn’t cost very much and you can easily lose track of time.

I am beyond livid at the Loveland Castle!! Our Cub Scout Pack had an overnight scheduled for tonight with a confirmation email and a contract.
My 4 year old was beyond excited to tag along with his older brother’s pack and to be able to play and sleep in a real castle tonight. He’s been talking about it for days.
We get there to find out they are filming a movie. The supposed owner came down and was EXTREMELY rude and nasty telling me I’m mistaken and went as far as to tell me I am trespassing and he would have me arrested if I did not leave the property immediately.
I get mistakes happen so some kindness and an apology would have gone a long way in this situation but instead I get met with total nastiness!
We had originally paid for 2 overnights then the Covid shutdown hit and we were forced to cancel and this was our re-book from that. We lost a lot of kids in our pack to Covid and were only going to use the one overnight and had planned to donate the other $200 fee to the castle but after that interaction, we will be demanding our entire $400 back!
If that wasn’t bad enough, I then had to listen had to my 4 year old ball his eyes out the entire 45 minute drive home!
I feel like the original owner is turning in his grave knowing this is how a fellow scout was treated at his castle!

This was an interesting place, and I got more out of it by watching the three videos about the man who built the castle. The castle isn't too large, and there's several rooms to see. The castle was constructed from rocks from the river and self-made bricks from concrete. It's so unusual - a medieval Norman-style castle in Ohio!

Traveled here by kayak from a Little Miami rental adventure (Loveland Canoe & Kayak). Was a perfect spot to picnic about 3/4 the way through the trip. Was a fun unexpected adventure.
The free picnic area is worth the stop alone, but the $5pp entry was worth touring this interesting site and learning about the builder and the "knights". Overall, it's an odd fascinating place. Good for kids I bet, for an hour or so. Enjoy.

Loveland Castle (recommended by Trip Advisor) was something to behold. Not expecting much, we wanted a day-trip activity and came across this page. Good thing we did, because it was fascinating. The groundskeeper was friendly and directed us around the structure. We went inside and encountered one of the knights (not in actual armor, just a friendly Cincinnati area-native), "Little Dave" who explained the entire history of the builder and castle. He told us most everything about it and seemed to really care about it. He answered all our questions and gave us lots of elaboration and explanation. The little artifacts were cool, and the pictures were nice. The swords and armor are both also captivating. Needless to say, the most fascinating aspect about Loveland Castle is its mere existence. A 10th century Norman-architecture castle is something you won't find anywhere else in the United States! Although it is fairly small, it is something to behold. Definitely make sure to strike up a conversation with "Little Dave!"

Parking lot, 1sr floor, and if memory serves me correctly part of the picnic area but not all areas, nor is all of the castle areas.

Do people dress up for Castle days, like a renaissance fair?
Thanks, Dee
Written June 13, 2016
I understand that for the many weddings that have been held in Loveland Castle that people dress up in Renaissance clothing.

What can you do on an overnight there?
Written June 8, 2016
Sorry it took me so long to answer your enquiry. I honestly am not certain how to answer this. I believe that Boy Scouts and other "organizations have done so but on an individual basis, I am not certain. There are some B&Bs not too far away or "regular hotels. I thoroughly understand your wanting to spend the night in a castle though . You might want to check into Ravens Wood Castle which I understand is about a two hour drive from the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I've always wanted to visit there myself. I wish you luck and a future enjoyable stay at a castle . . . it is wonderful (I've had that pleasure in Ireland where I grew up.)
