Had a really great time kayaking! I would recommend reserving ahead if you’re going on a weekend. However, I was extremely disappointed with the COVID-19 preparations. The buses were jam packed to their capacity. Some people weren’t wearing masks. I really do think buses should be filled at half capacity, epecially in such a confined space.

This year we had to require reservations for weekends due to Covid Capacity. In most cases buses were at half capacity unless it was a group of family/friends together. We also rented a bus that had high backed seats that did not require half capacity. We did ask people to wear masks but unfortunately the government regulations did not let us be the mask police and many people claimed exemptions for physical conditions. I hope you come see us again.

First I would like to state that the owners or employees are very friendly and they aim to please and addressed any issues we had right away. Very nice people. But we were disappointed about how small those cabins were, I was not expecting that and didn't plan accordingly. The small cabin did have a refrigerator, which too about 2 days to get our things cooled. The window air conditioner worked just fine and they had a room heater we could have plugged in as well if needed, but we didn't need it. Would have been nice to have a small table in the cabin but there was absolutely no room. We had a problem with ants all around the frig and up in the balcony and a few on our mattresses. The employees did come in and sprayed and wiped them up, but I think because the cabin is all under trees and with branches hitting the roof, it will continue to happen. We had a fire pit area and bought some fire wood from them, they also gave us an extra bundle for our inconvenience of the ants and the frig. But due to the weather we only were able to have a fire one night. The bathrooms were awful and need a lot of work, some were not even working, they are trying to get them fixed after some people trashed them. This place can be very full and with only one bathhouse and only five semi working bathrooms/showers you can be waiting a long time. Because of all the rain we got in the evening and late afternoon it was a muddy mess. While we had a storm and with no small table in the cabin, we found the shelter nearby with lots of tables all squished together, I think because the actual season hadn't started yet. I can't even imagine the amount of work it takes to run this size of place. We have stayed in Yurts and platform tents are that much bigger. It was further from Hocking Hills hiking sites and waterfalls than I thought, but not bad anywhere from 9-15 miles away. But we found a lot of other cabins and camping much closer, but then it also might be a lot more expensive.

We appreciate your honesty. We pride ourselves in being an affordable place for many that cannot afford or do not wish to pay the deluxe cabin prices in the Hocking Hills. The unfortunate abundance of rain we experienced is what brought out the ants. This is not a normal occurrence and we do specify these are rustic camping cabins. I am glad our staff treated you well.

We booked a last minute trip to Hocking. Never been there before. We stayed at the River's Edge cabin which is not at the main campground. The location was near enough to Logan to be close for grocery shopping and local restaurants. All the major hiking spots were 20-30 minutes away.
The cabin itself had the amenities we needed (full kitchen, bathroom with shower, and hot tub). One benefit was full access to the canoes/kayaks. We were able to take out two double kayaks and paddle upriver. Then really enjoyed gently flowing back downriver to the canoe livery. Staff were friendly, laid-back and knowledgable.

Map of campsites in the booking tool is not the same as the actual map of the campsites. Frustrating. Also, primitive tent camping is not within easy walking to a bathroom with a sink. Toilets & sinks are located IN the shower rooms which means you may wait a very long time to use a flush toilet if someone is taking a shower.
Also, says quiet hours are enforced, but we listened to neighboring campsite talking/yelling until around 2am. I could get more peace and wildlife in my own backyard.

Line was very long to check in despite arriving 30 minutes early. There was no real communication about what bus to get on. Most people were standing around waiting for direction, but we never really got any. Finally figured out what bus to get on on our own. No one was wearing masks and no hand sanitizer was available that I saw. Despite getting lifejackets off the "clean" rack, most of them appeared dirty and mine was full of mud. Once arriving at the drop-off site, there was no clear direction where to pick up the kayaks. We had 2 tandem kayaks and had to go through about 4 before finally finding 2 that were somewhat clean. They were all very dirty/muddy, full of spiders and spiderwebs and leaves. It didn't look like they had been sprayed off in quite some time. You'd think when they knew a bus would be arriving that they would have kayaks and canoes cleaned off and ready to go, but that's not the case. None of the staff members were friendly and I'm pretty sure I never saw one of them smile.

I am sorry you had an unpleasant experience. There are no longer mask requirements in this state so we were in compliance.

We went last minute kayaking with a family of 6. The young lady at the desk was so kind. We asked for 6 kayaks and she asked if we had a reservation, we did not. She said I do not have any avail. up here but she was able to call down and see if we have any available. They did and she asked for them to be brought asap. and we had a great time. Smooth check in, getting our gear and staff was more than accommodating getting us in and out of our kayaks

great family fun canoeing on the river. we did the rock bridge 2 - 3 hour canoe ride. we were on the water 2 hours and 45 minutes; the water was moving slow that day and was very shallow in spots. the rock bridge at the very beginning of the canoe trip is a must see. you have to pull off at the landing across from where you pick up your canoe and walk the trail through the woods about 50 yards. the bus driver gave us the information on how to get to it because i thought i'd be able to view it while on the river. this was our first time canoeing.

Stated on their website (see picture) that the family fun package included one of two canoe trips and that kayaking was available at no additional charge. Then was told the opposite when we arrived to pay for our trip. Was told that the policy changed and that the family package only included caneoing with only one trip available. Website was never changed. Canoe trip was supposed to be 2 to 3 hours and we hardly paddled and it was only an hour and 40 minutes.
Family fun center was awful. located in area with burnt down homes that have never been fixed. Sewage truck was there while we tried to play putt-putt and was extremely noisy and smelly. Why was that not done earlier in the day instead of when customers are there? A third to half of the putt putt greens had no carpet on them. The rest are pretty dirty and we're not clean from debris and leaves. Songbird had a nest in the middle of the course and tried to attack us several times so we had to skip a few greens. Went and told an employee about this but she seemed like nothing was going to be done about it. So what's going to happen if a family is playing in that bird attacks a young child? Also we were not allowed to use the splash pad being told that the water had to be tested because the health department had to approve it before they could have it available for Memorial Day weekend. Didn't matter if it was available to us even though they advertised it as part of our deal.

We reserved and prepaid for our kayak river excursion with a departure time of noon! We were not on the water until 1pm. This was the most disorganized and unprofessional scene I’ve ever experienced! Our reservation was not honored. The kayaks we reserved were not available (1 single and 1 tandem). The staff in the green shirts at the launch site looked at me like I was an alien when I asked for directions as to where our tandem kayak was. They had no clue how to assist customers. There is another canoe and livery company running excursions- go to them! Our kayaks were filthy and one had a small hole; as it filled up with water as we kayaked down the river. The bus driver was helpful - he tried his best to assist in finding a tandem to no avail. We used 3 singles instead, which was not our reservation because of needing to keep 2 in our party together.

We had a nice trip, despite the staff. The woman at the front desk was completely rude and practically yelling at us about our equipment. She acted like we were late when we were not instructed to arrive any time ahead (we were 15 minutes early!). We were told what equipment to grab with no help or guidance for fit. The equip appeared to be dirty and not sanitized for COVID. When we returned our equipment, the same woman glared at me and refused to answer my question about where to place my life jacket. Employees driving the bus did not wear masks. They were helpful enough. The river was great. We did sign up for the Rockbridge trip, but no one gave us any instructions to find it. It was a typical canoe trip and nothing overly special so I wouldn’t pick this place again over any other.

I am sorry you missed the Rockbridge. Drivers are supposed to inform you that if you leave from trip 2 you just paddle across the river, pull up your boat and take a short trail to view the rockbridge. We will reinforce that message. s

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on all Ohio waterways. We do not check coolers so you do so at your own risk

Dear KB Barth,
Unfortunately I cannot answer your question. I was a customer of the Hocking Hills Adventure Canoe Livery. I am not the owner or proprietor.
I would suggest you check out the Hocking Hills Adventure web site for additional information or contact details.
Thanks for your understanding. Best of luck to you.

Hello, we are camping at the primitive sites at Hocking Hills Adventures' Campgrounds. How long do you think it would take to do Kayaking Trip #4 Sugar Grove Trip with stopping at the Natural Rock Bridge to see that? How far is the Rock Bridge from the river? Normally I just kayak in flip flops, should I put tennis shoes in my dry bag for a long walk to the Rock Bridge? Also, we have our own Kayaks that we are bringing and we have arranged to pay for them to take us up, will be able to just kayak right to our camp spot? We are camping right along the river. Thanks in Advance for your help!
