Hike and Bike Kelleys Island Trails

1 review
This guided tour takes you to all the best places in the Kelleys Island State Parks and Preserves. Starting at the Glacial Grooves explore the unique history of the Island from the Ice Age, and all the way to the Devonian Era. This interesting tour is an active hike and bike through the trails with brief stops to learn and rest. The two hour adventour includes The Alvar Preserve on the North Shore, pebble beach, and also East Quarry State Park.

We came to Kelley’s Island after hearing from many people about how beautiful this island is and the fun times they had there. For us it was the total opposite. First of all we spent $112 for 4 people and the car to cross with the ferry. But then there’s not much you can do. There are much nicer beaches on the mainland. We ate at the village pump because it was rated very good and that was the next big disappointment: Overpriced fried food that gave us all an upset stomach. Not coming back.

Lovely walking trail with local quarry rocks, interesting trees and birds, that lead to a hidden, pristine and easy swimming beach with something to often all travelers, including benches in the shade.

I cautiously give this an "average" review. Although the pictures that I posted reflect the beauty of the Preserve, there are some important bits of information that I want to share. First, depending upon when you visit, wear good walking shoes. My wife wore sandals and the path had many ruts from when the ground may have been softened with the rain and then dried in the heat. Second, beware of bikers. There are curves in the path and not enough room for bicycles to pass without you getting out of the way. Third, when we exited the forest, there was a bench on which to sit. Unfortunately, the flies made it a short rest. We chose this walk because it was short: approximately a half mile. Perhaps going on a day when it wasn't quite as hot (80s) would have made it more enjoyable.

This is a short 15 minute easy hike through woods that ends at a beautiful sandy and rocky beach. The beach faces the east, so you might catch the sunrise in the morning over the water. The parking area has about 3 or 4 spots for cars.

Beautiful, secluded beach is the reward of the end of the trail. Not a long trail or difficult, do beware of snakes, though.
