I had a great time at this beach! I went twice during the week. $6 to park. They had port a pottys and a shower station to rinse off. Also a place to rent floats and Water toys and not sure what else. No lifeguard on duty. The water was not deep at all, only knee to mid thigh for about 100 yards out (I'm 5'7"), which I loved because i can't swim. I got lucky and had beautiful sunny weather and on a weekday it wasn't super crowded. Would definitely go back

Dirty dirty beach!!! So many dead fish and debris. My kids wouldnt even go in the water. Expensive cash only parking. No on site concessions. Porter potties. Just not a family friendly beach at all!!!! Wont be returning.

If you are there to do anything other than suntan, I would suggest going elsewhere. There were so many dead fish floating in the water and washed up on shore. It was very smelly. The water for the 1st 10' out was disgusting. They do not have Restrooms or anywhere for you to wash off. They do have port a potties that were in need of being cleaned out. The playground equipment was still caution taped off (which I assumed it would be.) They did have a small shop that you could buy different items in. The Beach volleyball area looked nice. They do charge you $6 to park your car.

We visited with our 20 and 15 year olds, and our 5 year old grandson. Everyone had a good time!
It was a Sunday and the beach was pretty crowded but we didn’t have any trouble finding a good spot to set up camp.
There’s a jetty to rock scramble out on and fish.
A playground.
Well-maintained porta potties.
Water sport equipment rentals and floats and things for sale.
A snack shack
Water was comfortable late July and sand was hot!
Water stays pretty shallow for a while.
Really only negative was lots of people smoking on the beach and dropping their butts in the sand.

Stopped here to see a great lake while driving across the country. Nice beach area with picnic tables and volleyball nets set up. There was plenty of people but the beach area is wide so it did not feel crowded. Nice place.

We weren't sure how this beach would be, but my seven year old was wanting some beach time. The beach was clean and the actual lake was nice with a sandy bottom and plenty of room to wade and swim. There are plenty of shady spots to picnic, as well as a shop that sells beach toys and rents some equipment. Entry to the beach was cash only.

The last time we went to Nickel Plate beach was 2 years ago and it was very clean and a great experience for our young family. Yesterday we went again and there was black stuff in the water that was all over our bodies and even in our hair. Some of it came off with a beach towel, but the rest was dried on and only came off with a bath or shower. The beach also had a lot of debris on it (sticks and things washed up from the lake).

It definitely was NOT as clean as it was 2 years ago. And the admission fee is $5 per car. So, my question is why isn't the beach being cleaned up with the money from the admissions?

The beach also had sand volleyball courts and a nice playground for the kids. If the beach were cleaner (as it used to be) I would have given it 5 stars.

Great place to enjoy a sunset or a stroll, but I'd strongly advise against swimming here! When wind conditions drive waters the correct way, there will be a vicious undertow that all too often has resulted in swimmers drowning. It's much too frequent an occurrence...swim somewhere else!!

First time at this beach with little children. and it was fun! Very clean, they have a cute little shop to buy floaties and snacks. It cost to park, but you could also park down the road and walk. Only negative thing to say is there is no bathrooms just porta potties. There's other beaches around the area that have rinse off stations for your feet and nice restrooms. We will probably not go back to this one due to that issue.

The GPS makes you take a right instead of a left which puts you on small streets with homes. Make sure you find the regular parking lot as I assume they frown on taking up their street parking. There is plenty of parking and they do charge a small fee per car. The beach is clean and the sand is for the most part free of rocks. Right on Lake Erie this is a nice beach to spend the day.
