We took a trip to Strahan for a couple of hours while we were staying in Queenstown, grandson and son's partner had not been there, we visited the Wilderness Woodworks and having been before knew my son would love it, the store has some amazing woodwork and the smell of oils and woods hit you immediately, but we also really enjoyed the mill next door with some beautiful Huon Pine on display, a must do in Strahan.

Have not seen many placea which have as broad a selection of goods as this. The quality of work is very high. The pricing however is a bit steep. I understand Huon Pine is expensive but i have pieces which are as good and were purchased at a third the price.

Stumbled across the whiskey and gin tasting section.....an amazing collection of Tassie Whiskeys. The owner has excellent knowledge of the qualities and characteristics of all the drinks he has to sample....as well as the background of the distiller. Worth walking in the front door for this alone. Even managed to buy a Hobart Whiskey Pinot Noir at a cheaper price than you get in the bottleshops!

After getting off the Gordon River Cruise, I planned to go into the shop to take a look with my wife. There were two entrances to the shop, however both have a bump which does not allow a self-propelled wheelchair person to enter the shop. At last only my wife went in to the shop to browse, and ended up not buying anything.

We recently visited this establishment to sample Tasmanian Whiskey, having paid $25.00 for sampling, I decided on the top shelf whiskey NANT White Oak at $400 for a 500ml bottle. Although reluctant to pay this price I assumed the price would be perhaps a few dollars more than if I were to buy elsewhere. After leaving town and having looked on the NANT website, I discovered to my horror I could have purchased the same bottle through the distributor for $299.00. A bit disappointing to realise this, one would expect to perhaps pay a few dollars more but not a 33% markup on retail price.
When holidaying in your own country, one does not expect to be taken advantage of and overcharged to that extreme. He is not only getting a markup on every sample but on calculating, he has charged according to nips ie 16 x $25.00 to total the $400.00 he charged me.
Morral to this long story is don't accept the price he gives you, look online before you buy. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

There should be a notice outside this place warning tourists who have to fly home somewhere that they will leave the establishment in a state of serious disappointment! Some truly marvellous items are on sale exhibiting levels of skill and craftsmanship which make this clumsy DIYer very, very envious.

This is basically a gift shop but it is worth a look to see the neat things that they have made out of wood. Nice place to visit before the Morrison' Sawmill demonstration.

The man running the store was very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw some beautiful woodcraft and would have liked to take some home. It is not inexpensive but the craftsmanship is superb.

from the smell of the oils and wood when you enter the shop, we loved it. The huon pine lamps with tea light holders are brilliant. The display is good, some were out of our price range but we enjoyed looking around after all the information on the cruise to see how the wood is used.
