I'm sure if you are a whiskey lover or look like you are a buyer of very expensive knitwear you may receive a warmer welcome or at the very least a simple hello. Upon entry, (with correctly worn masks) the man tucked behind the bar failed to even greet us as we entered on a blustery day. His only words were a terse demand to "scan in please, this is a licensed premises." No hello, no how are you, no further comment. Whilst I can appreciate the stresses of business in the current covid climate and the on going changes to the requirements for entry to a business, and the obligations of a licencee, and as a business owner, there is no excuse in my mind to not greet potential customers with a simple pleasantry. My initial plan to purchase some whisky for a special family member quickly altered as a result of this unpleasant interaction and rudeness. In every other business entered in Stanley on this visit, staff greeted me warmly and engaged in polite and pleasant chit chat and were welcoming. I bought whisky elsewhere on my return up the coast.

Well, Lyn, that may have been me.
So, let’s get straight to the point, Lyn. This is not a review, but a tantrum over the fact you were asked to check in.
You obviously rummaged, coming up with the line of “very expensive knitwear”, and I make no apology for our prices. They are RRP. Being “a business owner yourself”, you would understand that term, but I cannot understand why you, being “a business owner yourself”, would post such a vindictive review.
You state the man tucked behind the bar said, “scan in please”. He would have asked “could you check-in please”. Do you have a problem with the word “please”? Or do you have a problem with being asked to abide by the rules of an establishment? Terse, or not!
All the staff in The Angel’s Share love robust chit-chat, and the opportunity to disseminate information about Tasmania’s burgeoning whisky and spirits industry, but sometimes, just sometimes, it takes the patron to initiate.
Someone forbid, but being at the workstation, tucked behind the bar, things do have to be done, as you would full well know, Lyn, being “a business owner yourself”, and the opportunity to gush with a “Hello, welcome to blustery Stanley, and may you have a great stay, and check out our very expensive knitwear and whiskies” might not have been appropriate at the time, when you should have been preoccupied with checking in.
And. If maybe, you had taken the time to engage with the man tucked behind the counter, said hello, said it’s blustery out there, or anything to strike up a conversation, instead of being affronted by the fact that you were simply asked, tersely, to check-in, you might have picked up that really nice, special whisky to take back to your special family member? But I rather doubt you had any intention to make a purchase. It would have been "very expensive".
Maybe, you did not take any notice at all, of the myriad of posters stuck on the doors, (which we hate) and just wandered on in, not acknowledged the man tucked behind the counter, who you obviously saw, then just got angry just because you were asked to “check-in”
You base your vindictive tirade on being asked to check in, quote unpleasant interaction and rudeness, which seems strange, considering the only interaction seems to be being asked to check in!
I trust you, Lyn, will have a nice life.
Cheers.
Sam Humphries.
Licensee.
The Angel’s Share.
(Oh, by the way. Your punctuation is much better this time!)

No regrets about trying this place and it was worth a little stop off for a glass of wine before dinner, but there is no doubt the focus is on whisky and spirits in there. That’s ok - just not what we were seeking!
It’s fun to have a drink in the old bank surrounded by a plethora of goods that very sadly wouldn’t fit in the suitcase.....
Appreciation to the fellow who stayed open much longer than the sign on the door indicated.

Traveling with my friend I went in here to buy a bottle of whiskey for my husband at home. The woman looked down on us even when I told her I would like to purchase a bottle there was no offer of tastings or any information. Instead she watched us like a hawk and we felt uncomfortable in the store. I guess we are about 30 years younger than their usual clients but we also have tourist dollars to spend. I bought a bottle of whiskey from the Tasmanian hoochery instead at another stop.

The Angles Share is without doubt the place to visit for the best of Tasmanian Whisky. The old bank vaults contains some very rare and hard to fine whisky. Take your time and get to know the owner and if they trust you, then you might be really lucky they will open up their secret whisky collection for you.
If you love whisky do not miss this iconic and most beautiful spot in Tasmania.
The best whisky in Tassy is at the angles share. Do not miss this spot!

This store is a whishy tasting store with woollen items also for sale.
The whisky tastings start at $6 a sample. The woollen items were grossly overpriced.
It was cluttered and not inviting.

Surprised and hurt by your review, Elaine.
We pride ourselves on stocking ethical, high quality, luxury knitwear that you will wear forever. It is sold at the recommended retail price, not a cent more. The reaction from the vast majority of people that enter our store, is 'wow, what a beautiful shop.'
I don't think you appreciate how devastating it is to a small family business, who work 7 days a week, to receive reviews such as yours. Thanks Elaine, you made our day.

What a gem this place is! Apart from quality fashions and souvenirs it's a showcase for Tassie whisky and gin, with a large range to "sample". I use commas because the days of rolling up "trying" lots of small drinks with the inferred promise to buy one and then getting back sloshed on the bus to "think about it" well, those days died long ago along with the dodo!
We stayed a week in Stanley and visited Angel's Share five times for a nip or three on the way to dinner. All three owners, Sam, Louise and their son Will are very knowledgeable about their products, but of course Will is still at his young age an apprentice - though a very accomplished one. He knows more than almost all of his customers!
We tasted lots and learned lots! We also witnessed other customers come to sample and most were equally impressed. We were there with Will as host when a snooty wannabe couple and their purported tour guide, equally snobby, wanted to try some gins. Their manner of asking suggested they did not expect to pay for their tastings. We were amused to see the three of them trying to savour a half- nip over ice. - so 5 ml each at the outrageous cost of $2.50! Meanwhile the tour guide read through a large tourism book as though in the library reading room rather than in a shop that SELLS books! We didn't have to pay to watch these silly people "perform" but confirms to me what I always thought - that the customer isn't always right!
This shop and its owners are terrific. Highly recommended!

Wow where do I start? What a fabulous place to visit and spend some time. A Huge range of Whiskey, Gin, Bourbon, spirits etc. Will was very informative and friendly at our tasting today. He knew exactly what he was talking about and was a pleasure to spend time with. There was a small group of us and our tasting was such fun, thanks to him. We were not rushed at all and loved it. Great experience.
