At first when arrived to the entrance/reception it felt like we were at Australia Zoo or Disneyland. Felt like a big commercial place full of laughing people and money making. However, and luckily, as we got into the estate, that was soon left behind and we could immerse ourselves into the grim history of the place. There are guided tours... More

We arrived at Port Arthur around lunch time so the car park closest was full and we had to park a few levels up which meant a bit of a walk to the entrance so I was dropped off at the door and my husband parked the car. The reception and food area was very busy and crowded so would... More

Absolutely loved it, the tours were fantastic, the staff knowledgable and entertaining. Don't miss Death Island or the cafe on the hill at the Priests house.

This site is 99 Hectares so you will need to be able to walk through the site. Our entry ticket of $37 included a 40 min orientation walking tour which was informative & interesting. Also included was a 30 min boat cruise. I highly recommend this site.

7 hours onsite and just managed to see everything. Did the Isle of the Dead which was interesting but not really sure if it was worth it. However, you go great views of Port Arthur from the boat. Staff were very informative. Get an Entertainment Book for Tasmania as this will give you great savings. Definitely worth the visit. Great... More

If there is only one place in Tasmania that you visit it must be the Port Arthur Historic site. Magnificent history, wonderfully kept gardens and surrounds, extremely informative guides, emotionally demanding history. We spent 7 hours walking around and taking in all that was on offer - what a great day!

I have been here a couple of times and I cant recommend it enough. The site itself is well maintained and easy to get around. The guides are great and if you decide to self guide then its easy to do so. The historical elements are simply brilliant. A true treasure. Make the trip out to the island of the... More

Traveling to Port Arthur, Tasmania from Hobart is still a morning's drive and one needs to allow time to purchase entry to this amazing historical site. We highly recommend purchasing the tours to both the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer Boy's Prison site, coordinating the times. You will also need an orientation tour however this is only 40... So impressive. Well done by the managers to present such a tranquil place after such a history. Lots to see and do. Easy day trip from Hobart. Isle of the Dead tour is a must. Highlight of our trip to Tasmania so far
