Fun
Mar 2021
In a land of Little Penguins, this Giant Penguin is a fun roadside find.

The Big Penguin is on the Main street between a playground and a memorial.

Recommended - good fun

Moving along, we stopped at Penguin - a very nice seaside town where clearly the locals have embraced the ‘Penguin spirit’ (ala the Big Penguin; Penguin themed rubbish bins; Penguin shops; etc ..)

Great photo stop

Penguin is really just another seaside town but you have to drop in for the Penguin, the Dr Who Tardis nearby and the plethora of shops. We are a sucker for these Aussie big items and this was a photo shot not to miss.

If there were two we would have a 'waddle'.

A penguin’s thick feathers aren’t the only way this bird stays warm... occasionally it needs to be hugged... yes, truth! By strangers passing by... and here in the town of Penguin... you have that opportunity to hug a penguin, albeit a large one on the foreshore.

Seriously who doesn't love an opportunity to take their photo with a penguin?!?! Yes, I had my photo taken with it... will I share it here? Hell NO! Ha ha... but I will relish my moment with this penguin forever.

A Plastic Penguin In A Town Called Penguin
Jan 2021
If you are in a small town called 'Penguin' then it is fair to allow a plastic "Giant Penguin" to dominate the foreshore and to be the major feature for those that pass through. Add to the "Giant Penguin"which is quite small there are penguin trash cans and street posts that add to the charm and a blue police box that has been converted to the local book exchange or library. Foundered in 1861 as a timber town and later a significant port this little town was named creatively, after a few drinks as as "Penguin" by Botanist Ronald Gunn for the penguin rookeries along the coast. It was a pretty little town with a very average beach; that is the way the penguin's like it.

Great for the kids
Dec 2020
Nice spot along the waterfront for kids and adults to get a photo with the giant penguin.

Some people hog the penguin taking forever to take photos.

Can’t miss it along the waterfront.

Beautiful Penguin
Mar 2020
Penguin is a beautiful town with their Main Street right on Bass Strait. It is situated between Ulverstone and Burnie and well worth the detour to view our magnificent icons - the big Penguin - have your photo taken with him on the foreshore next door to the playground, the Uniting and Anglican churches, both beautifully restored and Hiscutt Park with our Windmill. The Railway Station is also an icon and finish off with a lovely morning tea, lunch or dinner at one of our many eating places. You won’t regret your visit!

A fun statue
Dec 2019
This is an example of the fun and friendly atmosphere in the town. We were there in December and the penguin had a red coat fitted to look like Santa!

Cute and fun for selfie-time!
Oct 2019
Always like to see big things- and a giant penguin is no different, and a great opportunity for a selfie. As an added bonus, in October the penguin is dressed in pink in support of Breast Cancer awareness month, a giant penguin in support of a great cause. Not to be missed.
