Hazards is a stunning white sand beach – more beautiful up close than Wineglass bay. And because it’s on the inside of the bay, a safe swimming spot. That’s why the tour groups and water taxis come here to drop people off for the short walk across the isthmus to Wineglass Bay.
The boat tour or water taxi is easily the best way to do this. If you want to walk here the direct route is about 2 hours of very dull, hard walking through tea tree and rocks direct from the carparks. The other way is the 4 hour circuit up to the lookout, then down the 1000 stairs to Wineglass Bay and across the isthmus.
There are no toilets or water here, so stock up. The only toilets are at Wineglass Bay and the car park.
But there’s a wide, white sand beach which boats can easily approach, and plenty of safe swimming. There’s decent shade at the end closest to Coles Bay and this is where most people seem to stop for the day.

Beautiful scenes, lovely sands and great clear water but 90-120 minutes of reasonably vigorous walking along good but not flat trails to get here. Not for the faint hearted.

We love the walk up to the lookout, down to Wineglass bay, cross the isthmus, get to Hazards Beach and then back along the coast. They say 5 hours but we do it in about 4 and we are not the fastest walkers.

A stunning location. Bring insect repellent if you are walking in. Be out of there or inside your tent half an hour before nightfall if you don't want to get bitten badly.

We hiked up to Wineglass Bay Lookout from the visitors center, then proceeded down to Wineglass Bay beach and continued on to Hazards Beach and continued to complete the entire circle. What a wonderful hike! My technology clocked the walk at 14K and it took us with stops and lunch along the way, about 4 1/2 hours. The foliage is diverse, the beaches are amazing and as we walked along Hazards Beach there were very few people. There are delightful little coves along the way protected from the wind and the waves. We packed a lot of water and enjoyed sandwiches, fruit and chocolate along the way. The path can be sandy, hard pack or root laden so make sure that your footwear has sticky soles as some parts are also granite steps and boulders so you want to be sure footed. As we came around to the other side(Coles Bay) the path got busier with young people coming up from the other way to enjoy those secluded coves we saw. The end of the hike takes you directly to the parking area.

A fair trek to get there, but a nice view when you do. Sand isn't the softest, but there are a lot of interesting shells to collect.

We did the full 11 km circuit - Wineglass Bay lookout, down the 1000 steps to Wineglass Bay, walk across to the Hazzards Beach and then around the peninsula to the car park. Not too difficult at all, and a great mix of different terrains adn views greatly added to the expereince.

The is the 4th part of the Trek (Freycinet Park Visitor Centre to Wineglass Bay Lookout to Wineglass Bay Beach across the Isthmus to Hazards Beach).
The Beach was clean & there were no other people on it.
We walked onto the beach from the Isthmus track into a strong wind (sand stinging our faces) & a high tide. It was hard going; walking into the wind with a high tide. The sand was difficult to walk in & there were rocks & tree roots to navigate.
The Beach was strewn with thousands of shells & it was very pretty.
It took about 45 minutes to walk along the beach until we reached the Hazards Beach inland track back to Freycinet Park Visitors Centre / Carpark.

As soon as you drive into Coles Bay the stunning view of the Hazards is right before you. At sunset the Hazards turn golden and the view from Hazards Beach is spectacular

This place is absolutely stunning when you first see it and you cannot stop staring at it! It changes throughout the day as the weather alternates throughout the course of the day. Must see!
