- Canadagirl63Ottawa, Canada97 contributionsFabulous Jenolan Caves experience! What an amazing experience! Our guide Pete was so passionate about the caves and was a great storyteller he really made the experience fabulous. We did the Grand Tour and saw the Orient and Temple of Baal caves. Worried a little bit when it was rated strenuous and not for the faint of hear - I would say it wasn't as difficult as we anticipated - a lot of stairs but many chances to stop and catch your breath. The caves are breathtaking and pictures do not do it justice. I think I would love to see the other caves after our Grand Tour experience. Highly recommend! The 1.5 hour drive from Katoomba and then back was definitely worth it!!Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2024
- OnAir63050095213Melbourne, Australia1 contributionAwesome place to visit!!Exceptional! Fantastic experience. We viewed the Orient cave system and it was amazing. Apart from the wonders of the caves themselves the experience was greatly enhanced by our tour guide Dylan who was so passionate and knowledgeable sharing both scientific information, the history and amusing stories keeping our group which aged from 14 to 75 totally engaged. I was looking forward to seeing the Blue Lake, but regrettably it is not currently accessible. I would highly recommend seeing the magnificence of these caves. My only regret was not allowing more time to complete some other cave tours.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 24, 2024

- Warwick_CrichtonMackay, Australia15 contributionsAbsolute must for anyone in the area.I did the imperial cave tour and the Grand tour. The imperial cave is the easiest (physically) of the tours and only involves a few stairs. This is a really good tour. Slightly rushed through I felt, I don't think 1 hour is enough time but I completely understand why they have it this way. The Grand tour, which consists of the Orient cave and the Temple of Baal cave is absolutely staggering. Some of the crystal formations are enormous. Not to mention the gigantic chambers within the caves. This is a must for anyone who is physically able. This one does involve a lot of stairs, a lot of ducking through low tunnels and climbing/descending through tight passageways. But it is absolutely worth it. Colin was the guide for both tours and he was brilliant. Full of information and clearly loved sharing his passion with the public. Only downside was getting to and from the caves. The road has been damaged by natural disasters so makes getting there a bit tricky but Google maps did the trick. 10/10 overall.Thank you so much for your review. Very detailed and loved your take on the caves. Your details regarding the road to Jenolan is important and thank you for mentioning it. This is something we are working on closely with Transport for NSW.Written June 2, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 3, 2024

Firstly due to floods & landslips in March 2021 the road to Jenolan Caves from Katoomba is closed. You need to go out to Oberon (on the waybto Bathurst) & then to Jenolan Caves via Edith Road. However you must pre-book on the Jenolan Caves website before you go as numbers are restricted due to road conditions. As we were staying in Oberon & Jenolan Caves is only 30 minutes away, this is the way we went but as we have done the cave tours before we just wanted to go to the cafe for lunch. This is where the trouble started. There is no way you can book on the website to get your approved access unless you book a cave tour, high tea or accommodation. We went in to Oberon Visitor Information to ask for help & they couldn't work out either how we could book our access timeslot. The lady suggested we book a high tea but we didn't want to do that. Like us she tried to phone the number on the website & like us couldn't speak to anyone to get help. Despite the big sign at the start of Edith Rd just near the info centre that says you must pre-book your access time before you go, the info lady told us to go anyway. When we got to Jenolan Caves & spoke to on-site staff they said access preference is given to people who have booked a cave tour or accommodation. Access is restricted because of the very precarious steep, narrow, winding road that goes to Jenolan Caves off Edith Rd. Definitely not suited to caravans, RVs, buses or trucks. When we mentioned that we tried to call before leaving we were told they were being inundated by calls & not enough staff to handle the calls. They told us as we were already there to just register using the NSW government QR code. This area has been severely impacted by recent natural disasters (bush fires & floods) and we wanted to spend some tourist dollars there but they made this very difficult to do if we didn't want to stay there or pay the very high costs for a cave tour ($42 or $50 per adult per cave, only 3 are open). We did have lunch at the cafe (which wasn't great) & spent some money in the gift shop. We were there on a Wednesday & only saw a handful of visitors. If they want to get the tourist dollar I suggest they make visiting a bit easier by updating the website FAQs for visitors such as us or have someone answer the phone.

No time tables for tours anywhere (website is not functioning), no hours of operation for the ticket/gift shop anywhere, no hours of opening for the cafe. From 7.30 am till after 9 we, along with another 20 plus people walked around trying to find a timetable, tried to buy tickets, tried to buy coffee. It’s a complete joke. The gift shop opened at 9.02 after the first tour left at 9am with 2 people on it. Three staff stood around in the gift shop. No one seems to care!

Words alone cannot describe how horrible the customer ‘service’ is at this place. I’ve visited the caves before and always loved it so when I travelled to Sydney with my extended family in Dec 2019 my expectations were very high. Sadly, this changed quite quickly when we realised that due to the bush fires and the horrible situation that’s currently sweeping across the country made it impossible for us to male it (and the fire warnings also told us NOT to drive to the blue mountains due to increased risk) when contacted to discuss a potential rebooking or refund (we are U.K. based) the arrogant girl on the phone had the balls (no pun intended) to not only treat me like a child but also went on to lecture me that as long as we were in the caves we would be 100 percent safe from the fires, and then giggles like it was the best history in the world - what utter BS that completely ignores this disaster! They also went on to tell us that if we decided not to drive there (the official warnings told us NOT to go) surely, that was our choice and there was nothing they could do!
Staff and customer service here is absolutely appalling and I’m still shocked over this treatment! I’ll encourage everyone to go elsewhere rather that pay this company any money ever!

Okay. The fires: disater. The floods: double bad news. Covid? I'd be thinking thats a great time to clean the cobwebs, fix the broken mesh, paint the place and take stock. But not so. I doubt anyone has laid a hand on any of the superstructure since i last visited in 2017. Plus the meal in caves house for over 250 people all told was catered by 3 staff and 1 barman. Covid aside, one of my favourite destinations is slipping away rapidly

We had a brilliant experience exploring the three open caves, The Temple of Baal, The Chifley and The Orient. The tour guides Scotty, Russell and Felicity were knowledgeable, friendly, witty and added to the wonderful tours.
The caves have only recently opened due to floods and due to Covid the tour numbers are limited so book.
We really should support this iconic, spectacular tourist destination. There are packages with Caves House which can be viewed on line. Absolutely worth it!!!!!

After driving through the beautiful countryside, we were stopped at the start of the Caves, to be taken down together following a car to get to the bottom of the road, with staff ready to direct us to parking spaces. I booked the Imperial and Orient cave tours which was not disappointing. Our guide Barry was very informative, with plenty of mind blowing information, and asked if we had questions during the tour. The caves were nothing short of spectacular. I was looking forward to seeing the Blue Lake, but unless under construction at the time, so the water had been drained and the platypus relocated until it was completed. I would highly recommend seeing the magnificence of these caves with several options to choose from based on interest and fitness levels.

Jenolan’Cave has been around for tours for locals and foreign tourist for decades. I last visited 10 years ago and some changes due to pandemic had to be applied. Tours are pre-booked with limited numbers, face masks and social distancing enforced and note the road closures due to natural damage, namely from storms.
Jenolan’s Cave is one of those must visit places if you have time while in Sydney. Caves remain the same, we went on the Lucas Cave tour. It was ok. Hasn’t change much. Nice easy walk with plenty of stairs. Good short getaway trip. Still worth it for those who have yet to experience the caves.

What a magnificent cave! So many colours and shapes! Geoff, our guide was very informative, giving us a history of the area and how the caves were formed. A lot of time and money has been spent updating the infrastructure of the cave making it a very safe and comfortable experience. I would highly recommend making the trip down to visit the Jenolan Caves.

Jenolan Caves are jaw dropping and overwhelming with natural beautiful.
There are many tours you can book either online or at the ticket counter at the caves. I would recommend joining two cave tours together to get the most out of your day.
There is free parking and a restaurant offering sandwiches, hot food, hot and cold drinks
The drive to the caves is a little scary in parts however it is so worth it when you arrive. Just take your time and keep your eyes on the road.

Is there the tour to the Jenolan cave from Katoomba?
Written May 16, 2023
Bonjour, peut-on réserver un tour pour Jenolan Caves à partir de Newcastle ou c’est seulement à partir de Sydney? Quelles sont les grottes les plus faciles, mes enfants ont 12-13 et 16 ans. Merci !

Best tour to do with a toddler? He'll be almost two when we finally do our trip. Also at what age do you pay for a child's ticket? 😊
Thanks in advance 😊
Written January 5, 2019
The toddler should be free to visit the cave as the caves are not all lit the parent should supervise them closely wish
The family a nice day at the cave.

What is earliest Train Operations Time started from Sydney to Katoomba ? How much is the Train Fare ? What is the Latest Train Operations Time End from Katoomba to Sydney? How much is the Tour Fare to Jenolan Caves? How much is the Day Tour Tour Fare from Sydney for Blue Mountain and Jenolan Caves ? Which Tour Operators Recommendation?

Hi,
The New South Wales Train website has a lot of information for trip planning. I recommend getting an Opal card. They are sold at most convenience/petrol stores and can be topped up there as well. They make getting around Australia via public transportation very easy. Check out transportnsw.
As the other reviewer commented, I also recommend going straight to the Jenolan Caves website for prices and cave choices.
Blue Mountains Trolley Tours runs a bus from Katoomba to the caves. They are the only company that provides this service, so if you do not have a car, you should check out their website.
Note that booking the actual cave tour along with the transport is an option through Trolley Tours. I recommend this as they will work out the cave tour times to be compatible with the tour bus departure times.
Hope you enjoy your time, it is a beautiful area.

WHich would be the easiest tour to take for my 75 year old husband who can be unsteady on his feet at times?

Probably the Diamond Cave which includes the Imperial Cave, There are steps but they are optional, you can wait whilst the rest of the group does that extension as they double back. The Guides would give you advice online before booking.
