the most awful lunch
Mar 2018 • Friends
been several times a few years ago and now the rattler is shambolic. every single standard has fallen miserably.
booked for a late lunch and the place was a mess. staff seemed out of sorts and the queues were huge. (sunny day in march!)

ordered fish and chips- we were not told there were no chunky chips and no tartar sauce. the manager said the kitchen will have to be closed as food had run out. he offered 20% off the bill of absolute rubbish. one of the fish batter was half empty of fish!

we then waited a long time to pay the bill despite feeling like we owed nothing for the shambles, long waits and below par food.

decided to queue to pay and do the right thing but staff at bar were so flustered as well and didn’t know about the bill. so we ended up leaving. there was no attention to anything or anyone. couldn’t cope with a busy period. hygiene has dropped considerably and it’s definitely not worth the visit. shame as it’s such an ideal location.

Dry meat but friendly staff
May 2016 • Family
I went last weekend for a carvery on Sunday with two friends and their 2 year old. We got sat down straight away and drinks were quick to arrive. The gammon was beautiful and the cauliflower cheese, mash and roasties were beautiful. I'm knocking points off for the incredibly dry turkey and charcoal yorkie. The place could do with a refurbishment. The staff were very friendly though. I'd go again but I'd go earlier so the meat wouldn't be as dry.

Best Sunday carvery!!
Feb 2016 • Family
Me, my husband and my 20 month old son came here for Sunday lunch and was the best we've had. I think it's good that they offered a bowl to fill up for my son for just £1.50. Very good value for money and a dessert included in the price. The only downside was that there was bits of foil in the gravy and gold star decorations in my glass, when I mentioned it is was offered another drink which was good.

grubby
Feb 2016 • Couples
Had Sunday lunch on entry you go upstairs.the stair carpets very grubby.electric fittings hanging of the wall.you enter the dining room.the room appears to be a consert room as this used to be a social club.a waiter takes you to a table and takes your drink order and you proceed to the carvery.the meat is of the best I have tasted, roasties tastless and buttery turnip.not to my taste.sitting to eat.the flooring is filthy.the whole place is in a 1980s time lapse. You get a free pudd which is nice.this place needs a really intense clean up and upgrade.

South Shields Tyne & wear is definitely worth a visit the beach front is fabulous and the ppl are the most friendly you'll ever meet.
The grotto is a cave used back in the day by pirates which has been made into a bar/restaurant. The drink I can recommend but not the food , the staff live upto the Geordie Welcome .
Most ppl know it more know it more where the fun run ends. But it's much more

I went to the mile today for a meal as I do most day's as the meat is cooked from fresh and the service I find to be very good and at times to be even better I think I will have to limit my self to how many time a week I go as I am putting on weight after feasting on fantastic meals and not forgetting about the Sunday carvery on the upper level of the Mile I would recommend it

Great sharing platter. Bargain.
Ate there Friday lunchtime with the wife. Platter was lovely, steak, chicken, wraps, pulled pork, chips.

Usual price was nine pound which I would happily pay, we used a tastecard and paid less than ten quid with two beverages.

Looking forward to going back.

Been there while going to the harbour to take the ferry to the other side. The road stretch close to the queen street and metro has some eatery and cafes . The south shields museum and art gallery is a good place for art lovers.
