- mukhasbenSouth Shields, United Kingdom2,007 contributionsPopular main parkAs a Sanddancer (local South Shields lass), the south marine park has happy memories going back decades to when the lake wasn’t so clean and we used to go tadpole fishing! The lake is a lot cleaner now but you can’t remove the pigeons and seagulls from trying to get any food you try to feed the ducks with. It has active play areas for younger and older children, that area is clean and well kept. It also has a large grassed areas for sports, picnics or occasionally sunbathing. The minature steam train has been a mainstay for years as have the pedalos. Minchellas ice cream sit down or take away cafe is popular, Albeit pricy (as every food source seems to be nowadays due to the cost of living. Easter holidays are on so the park was quite busy but there’s plenty of space despite the cool weather, so when (if) we get a summer it will be packed. Happy memories with our grandchildren today.Visited March 2023Written April 3, 2023
- simbelinaWhitley Bay, United Kingdom191 contributionsLots to doExcellent park with lots to do. Play park, green space, miniature train, lake with boats and pedalos and lots of ducks/swans (and gulls!) The miniature train was a huge hit with our 2 year old. For £1.50 for everyone 3+ we thought this was good value. Cafe, toilets and a few kiosks too. Contributes to South Shields being a great day out for young families.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 15, 2023
- Patricia M6 contributionsA well kept parkA lovely park very well kept. Not overrun with dogs. Plenty of grass. The lake has a lot of seagulls inevitable and also geese but a good job is done keeping goose poo down. Miniature steam railway can be enjoyed by all at £1.50 pp. The Swan pedalos come in very expensive at £10 for 20mins which probably explains why only one was in use and that's in August! Nice cafe and a hop over to the beach. You can find free parking if you look for it!Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 30, 2023
- Nick smithlangoldLangold, United Kingdom115 contributionsClean and tidyThe North Park was nice, clean and tidy with a large boating lake and cafe the lavs are clean. There are also a couple of kids play parks that our grandchildren enjoyed. And a massive grassed area with a few picnic tables I can't comment on the south park as it was closed for a Jason Donovan concert that he never showed up for.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 30, 2023
- Stephen V12 contributionsSomewhere that's always worth a visit, all year roundAs a child, it wasn't somewhere we went much, despite living only a couple of miles away. As an adult, I've been a whole lot more. Just walking through the parks in either relaxing, a scenic shortcut to the seafront, or somewhere to sit eating fish & chips like we did this time. The South Marine park has the mini lake with pedal boats, the cafe, the mini steam train and kids play the area. The North Marine park is a little more sedate, more geared up for adults. Great views of the entire coastline from the very top element. Always try to go when visiting my relatives.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 13, 2023

The two parks are on either side of Ocean Road. North Marine Park is very green and a nice walk along to the bowling green. South Marine Park has the boating lake with swan boats, Minchellas cafe, toilets, children’s play parks, miniature railway, bandstand and plenty of green area to play. Always popular and a great place to spend an hour.

Great parks either side of Ocean Road.
Large boating lake, two kiddies play areas, cafe, large green and toilets in South Marine Park. For a quieter stroll with nice scenery, try the North.

We hadn't been to the parks for 20 years and were very pleasantly surprised to find them very well used. There were people out on the lake and we went for a ride on the steam train. There are lots of benches, toilet facilities and a decent looking cafe. The outer edges of the park are not well kept but generally the parks are looked after.

Beautiful parks. Calm and peaceful in the north park and everyone had their dogs either on a lead or under good control.
On entering the south park we were pleased to see the prominent notice saying dogs must be on short leads (no longer than 1.5m). But within 5 metres of entering the park a dog was running around off the lead altogether, on the grass and on the pathway far from its owners. We made a quick exit.
Somebody please tell me this area isn't typical of this kind of anti social behaviour?

Time for council to sort the seaguls, the park is overrun with them. Year after year the numbers of gulls is increasing. The council had a cull of swans several years back and yet has done absolutely nothing about the seaguls. You can apply for government licence to cull seaguls and pest control experts can also remove seagul eggs from their nests and replace them with plastics ones.

Whilst in South Shields for a walk along the sea front we took the opportunity of walking through the parks. the most noticeable thing was how clean and tidy they were. The boating lake looked great and the children's play park had plenty to keep the young occupied. Will be back with the grandchildren.

A nice park visited on a hot day during the week. Lovely to see plenty of people whether singles, couples and families enjoying all the park had to offer away from the amusement park opposite. The park has plenty to offer with miniature railway, lake with pedelos , cafe and nice gardens. Lovely.
