As a Sanddancer (local South Shields lass), the south marine park has happy memories going back decades to when the lake wasn’t so clean and we used to go tadpole fishing! The lake is a lot cleaner now but you can’t remove the pigeons and seagulls from trying to get any food you try to feed the ducks with. It has active play areas for younger and older children, that area is clean and well kept. It also has a large grassed areas for sports, picnics or occasionally sunbathing. The minature steam train has been a mainstay for years as have the pedalos. Minchellas ice cream sit down or take away cafe is popular, Albeit pricy (as every food source seems to be nowadays due to the cost of living. Easter holidays are on so the park was quite busy but there’s plenty of space despite the cool weather, so when (if) we get a summer it will be packed. Happy memories with our grandchildren today.

Excellent park with lots to do. Play park, green space, miniature train, lake with boats and pedalos and lots of ducks/swans (and gulls!) The miniature train was a huge hit with our 2 year old. For £1.50 for everyone 3+ we thought this was good value. Cafe, toilets and a few kiosks too. Contributes to South Shields being a great day out for young families.

A lovely park very well kept. Not overrun with dogs. Plenty of grass. The lake has a lot of seagulls inevitable and also geese but a good job is done keeping goose poo down. Miniature steam railway can be enjoyed by all at £1.50 pp. The Swan pedalos come in very expensive at £10 for 20mins which probably explains why only one was in use and that's in August! Nice cafe and a hop over to the beach. You can find free parking if you look for it!

The North Park was nice, clean and tidy with a large boating lake and cafe the lavs are clean. There are also a couple of kids play parks that our grandchildren enjoyed. And a massive grassed area with a few picnic tables I can't comment on the south park as it was closed for a Jason Donovan concert that he never showed up for.

As a child, it wasn't somewhere we went much, despite living only a couple of miles away. As an adult, I've been a whole lot more. Just walking through the parks in either relaxing, a scenic shortcut to the seafront, or somewhere to sit eating fish & chips like we did this time. The South Marine park has the mini lake with pedal boats, the cafe, the mini steam train and kids play the area. The North Marine park is a little more sedate, more geared up for adults. Great views of the entire coastline from the very top element. Always try to go when visiting my relatives.
