Absolutely loved my first surf lesson here. The instructors were fantastic and really helpful, especially as we were all beginners but all managed to have a great time in the water. Definitely recommend giving it a go.

The attraction is located on a beautiful part of South Shields seafront. When I pass this attraction it is always being used and very popular. There is a very prominent beach attendant lookout and observation post. The stretch used for that activity is clear and well marked out with warning flags and signs. There is a very active patrol from Easter til September. There is always a good surf here. Nearby are plenty of eateries and good walks / north or south.

I booked my 11 year old daughter and her friend into the surf school kids session. The instructor Nick was excellent with the group and both girls had a fantastic time, they are already asking when they can go back!

After moving back to the town after many years away I was delighted to see the South Shields Surf School had popped up next to the Sand Dancer pub two years ago (you can park for free opposite the Dragons playing field on Bents Park Road. Having only ever tried surfing once with friends in rough seas which lasted about 10 minutes after swelling half of the North Sea I first tried the surf school solo in 2017 springtime and had such a great time that I have retuned dozens of times since with my son, 12, and daughter, 11 years old respectively from then until October when it stopped for the winter! We all had a ball every single time! Nick, the main instructor, who runs the school (an offshoot of the more established Tynemouth Surf School over the river) is brilliant, a real people person and gets everyone engaged. He is an experienced surfer and also an ex teacher and it really shows when he is dealing with kids. He makes it fun along with the other instructors who have taught us and they seem spot on with safety aspects. For value for money it is unbelievable; only £15 for a 2 hour group lesson who includes board and suit (boots/gloves when war is colder!) all in! The gear is good quality and keeps you cosy when you are in the water even in October!! I would highly recommend this great addition to South Shields great seafront! Cheer Nick!

Absolutely fantastic 2 hours surfing with Nick and Nick at South Shields Surf School. The price is fantastic 2hrs board hire, wetsuit hire and as much help and encouragement as you want. My kids are 10 and 7 and I knew the 10 year old would love it as he is a Rookie Lifeguard so this is right up his street but my 7 year old is very nervous of new things and has a 'I can't do it' attitude to most things if he can't succeed first time. However he had a ball, to be honest I didn't see him much after we got in the water but both Nick's were fantastic with him and pretty much everytime I looked over he was standing up on his board surfing away in the smaller waves. So much so when I did offer to help him he said 'I'm ok I'm doing it by myself' which for him is a miracle. Fantastic time had by all and we will definitely be back.
