Social distancing with the ducks 🦆

Live nearby and never ventured to Earlswood Common before.... I can’t think why not! Cafe had a good stock of different foods and drinks, pedalos and boats were in operation and we had a picnic by the lakeside which was lovely. It was pretty much perfect! Staff at the cafe and pedalos were really helpful and friendly. Hand sanitiser at both boathouse and cafe. Toilets were spotless too. It didn’t feel really busy which was a bonus, beautiful scenery and lots of different types of birds and ducks to look at - just a great day. Parking is free as an added bonus - how unusual is that?!

Peaceful way to start the day
Jul 2020
One of my 'walk before work at home' locations during lockdown - a variety of different walks to chose from, most starting and/or ending with a walk around the two lakes. Maybe busy later in the day but in the summer months it is very peacefful early in the morning with much wildfife to see and (since last year) no golfers to dodge.

Beautiful surroundings to take a walk.
Jul 2020
This is an extensive area to walk and provides options for other days to visit. The seasonal differences quite obviously give differing perspectives. The ubiquitous St John's church always there to help directions. The two lakes are fascinating and offering glimpses of varied wild birds. A popular cafe is a welcome opportunity to take refreshment. Once established as one of your favourites, the are options to walk beyond. Woodhatch being an option.

Absolutely stunning and perfectly pram-friendly. A lovely walk, especially at sunset. Good carpark and cafe. Picnic tables too (apart from during covid-19 of course!).

Lovely place for a dogwalk
Jun 2019
Really great place to go in the summer months for a dogwalk but very muddy in winter.
However dog walkers need to be aware that some cruel, person is leaving hotdogs laced with poison in the area and a dog has died from eating it so dogwalkers please be very aware and look out for your pets.
The wildlife around the lake is so lovely to watch- the ducks/ swans and geese sit on the grass sometimes.
I don't think there is enough car parking spaces for the summertime - the car park gets very full and you often can't get parked.
People so park very carelessly and block you sometimes.
There is a food van which is reasonably priced and the food is really nice- all cooked fresh.
We went on the pedalo's last summer which was fun.
Plenty of dog poo bins so no excuse to not pick up but sadly still lots of irresponsible owners not picking up from the grass and often have to dodge huge mounds of poo.
My dog is very nervous so I keep my distance from other dogs- there is enough room to do this when you get away from the car park area.
Would definitely recommend this place to go to for a relaxing walk.

Love this place
Sep 2019
Having posted reviews from all round the world I thought it was about time I reviewed Earlswood Lakes which is on my doorstep.

Over the last few years investment has been made in this area and the two lakes are looking better than ever, filled with wildlife. There has been a very successful breeding programme this year (Spring time was wonderful for my grandchildren seeking out the new babies each week)

There are a large number of swans. Yes, if you are nervous they can be intimidating, but providing you approach them with respect, they will feed from your hands.

There are footpaths around both lakes (Note: the top lake gets very muddy in winter so not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs)

There are 23 original bird boxes for the children to look out for (leaflet available).

The top lake has boats and pedalos and a very special sun dial. There is also a wooded area which is ideal for den building.

The bottom lake has clean public toilets and great refreshments (best bacon rolls in the area) The car park is free but can get very busy at weekends.

Fishing is possible but I believe you need to obtain a licence. Also ideal for dog walkers.

The common land is no longer a golf course so you are now safe to picnic anywhere without the fear of being hit by a golf ball!.

Go and Explore. There are lots of areas to check out if you venture away from the main footpaths.

Boats, Birdhouses, Wildlife, Walks
Sep 2019
Why has this place remained so hidden from me? I only found it when looking for a boating lake to take my grandchildren on a pedlo. Free parking, clean toilets, great snacks and picnic seating. Rowing boats and pedlos, good quality bird feed provided so the swans and ducks followed us around the lake much to my grandsons delight. The swans get very close if you find this freaky. Walk around the lake searching for 23 bespoke bird boxes provided a lot of fun. Anglers on a separate lake, Great positive staff running the catering and boating lake. Made a really nice day out for my family.
