- val.thatcher@btinternet.comEast Molesey, United Kingdom171 contributionsDisappointmentThird time visit but will not be returning. We feel menu very different which is good but prices quite high for the quantity and quality of what we had. My husband ordered a small plate which was to be Asparagus , smashed avocado on sour bread, with sun dried tomatoes .he got broccoli spears boiled, hard avocado, hard sour bread and normal tomatoes not sun dried. My husbsnd could not eat as he could not cut bread. But it was not as the menu so sent it back and was asked if he wanted another plate he choose calamri larger portion than mine but not that great. Had better. They were fair and didn't charge for my husband's meal. But the pub was empty inside. No atmosphere.other visits were better. Sat outside then but today was too cool..Visited August 2021Traveled with friendsWritten August 18, 2021
- askmurray90 contributionsFriendly local Young’s pub.Friendly pub with a large Gastro Restaurant section, in what is a quiet local residential area. Young’s beers plus other tide offerings. Beers kept pretty well, but often than not the “others” options run dry. Bar area bright and airy with some seating at the bar and tables by the fireplace. Another seating area to the side offers tables for all sizes of party. The Restaurant area is pretty large too, situated at the back of the pub, over looked by the kitchen.Visited January 2020Traveled with friendsWritten February 27, 2020
- Sally E18 contributionsQuick Late afternoon lunch.Me and my sister are usual customers of this pub. We came in yesterday afternoon for a bite to eat because the food is always good and it didn't disappoint this time either!👍But the service yesterday was a bit slower than normal because it appeared that one person was doing all the work. Which isn't fair, the lady that served us looked rushed off her feet while the other member of staff lazed around the bar area.Visited May 2021Traveled with familyWritten May 20, 2021

Unwelcoming atmosphere and unimpressive, scruffy staff made our visit to watch the six nations memorable for all the wrong reasons. Our party of six left after one round of drinks having been moved from one table near the bigger tv screen to a three quarters empty lounge area with two tiny screens where a private party was in progress. As soon as we sat down, two female staff members began to shift dining furniture noisily around by our table, giggling - futher adding to the feeling that we were just in the way. Please sort out your reservations policy - if a table says 3pm and it's 4.30pm and unoccupied , customers can assume the space is free surely- not be bumped out ofthe way when the reservation punters rock up and hour and a half late aggressively claiming to know the Manager.

Hi there,
We are sorry you had trouble with your booking, we do understand that the table appeared to be free when you arrived and can appreciate it was frustrating for you to have to move from your seat. Mistakes happen from time to time and our oversight on the timings meant there was some confusion for both your table and the reservation.
Please be assured that we did not intend to 'bump' you out the way- I believe a conversation between the manager, your party and the reservation took place and it was explained what had happened to ensure clarity between you both.
We do encourage booking on all our advertisements for the rugby as we tend to be very busy with private parties alongside table reservations for sports fixtures. We tried our best to find you another seat where you we able to see the screen as best we could despite the other room with tv screens being booked out for an event.
With regard to the furniture being moved- we do apologise if this was noisy, unfortunately this had to be done to ensure another reservation was set up for later in the day and this can sometimes be a little distracting. I believe I spoke to a member of your party and ensured he was not in the way when he asked to get out of his seat as we were moving tables.
If you would like to further discuss you experience with us and provide any suggestions on how we can make your next visit more accommodating and less stressful for you, please feel free to email me on springgrove@youngs.co.uk and I will be happy to chat with you.
Kind regards,

I have never felt the need to leave a negative review before now but after my experience in this pub I must vent my spleen. Firstly the pub is dirty! The downstairs toilets are filthy …. In fact by the amount of limescale in the bottom of the toilet bowl I doubt they have ever seen bleach. The tables are sticky and don’t even get me started on the garden area…… dog poo on the artificial grass! The prices are unbelievably high especially for food. Our meal was terrible … incredibly tasteless and only lukewarm. My roast beef was rubbery and the veg were over cooked and had zero taste. This is the worst Sunday roast I have had. The staff were also not pleasant. One young man who must be quite high up was rude to a man who was there with his 2 year old daughter… telling him to make sure his daughter sat back down after saying “I’ve already told you once!” … not how I think a customer should be talked to. The little girl wasn’t even doing anything, just standing. As a new family I’m the area we will certainly give this pub a wide berth.

I had a nut roast and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was full of beetroot, nuts and came in a Bloody Mary sauce. Also it was huge but I made myself finish it because it was so delicious. It was my first time in this pub and everything in it impressed me. It’s been furnished in a lovely and unpretentious way. Great service too.

I have come in today for a lovely sunday lunch with my family, as I have done many times before. The roasts were lovely as usual. However, I was sat behind 3 young girls and the manager came over and was shouting at them. Regardless what it was about, i am disgusted that someone would treat a customer like that- let alone a manager. I am truly shocked at this behaviour and unprofessionalism. It totally ruined the atmosphere for me and my family. I don’t want to come back, and I’m really disappointed as I have always loved the roasts here. I am unsettled and I can’t wait to hear from you.

We booked to come here for Christmas lunch and we weren’t disappointed! We were the last ‘sitting’ and they had clearly been busy but it didn’t take away from the service - lots of smiles and good atmosphere. Food was perfect! Everything cooked just right and really generous portions!
Thank you for helping make our Christmas Day special - had to go for a big walk after to walk to off! But would definitely recommend anyone to book - the Spring Grove is a great pub at the best of times but this was a very memorable experience - thank you to the whole team!

We had a brilliant night at the Spring Grove, first post-lockdown night out for a group of mates, and we had one one of the garden huts (currently in the UK, pubs and restaurants are open for outdoor dining only). The whole garden looked so pretty with its fairy lights, there was a lovely hubbub of chat and laughter, and the hut was gorgeous and warm (has a heater yay!). From the get go the welcome, service and food and drink were fantastic. You order & pay from the Youngs app on your phone and it works really well. The food was delicious - really good pub food, burgers, bangers & mash etc - every staff member was friendly and professional, and all the covid-safe measures were there. We loved it and will definitely return!!

Staff grubby and charmless, and all very overpriced.
Food lazy and tables uncleared, so maybe needs people to wake up a bit.

Hi there,
We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us on this occasion.
I find your comments about staff being 'grubby and charmless' rather surprising, as we have not received feedback like this before, our staff work hard to ensure everyone feels welcome and enjoys their experience at The Spring Grove. Also, our head chef ensures all food is served to the highest quality and takes great care in presenting his food for customers and this feedback is rather unusual for us.
We greatly appreciate any feedback during a visit so we can continue to provide the best possible service to our customers and rectify any problems there and then, to ensure everyone leaves feeling satisfied that their issues were correctly resolved. If these comments had been passed onto us, I can assure you this would have been rectified, and any food that did not meet your standards, would have been replaced or refunded.
It would greatly help if you can let us know what date and time you came in and what you had to eat so myself and the our head chef can work out why these issues were not sorted for you. Please feel free to email this info over to us at springgrove@youngs.co.uk and I will be happy to chat further about how to make your next visit more enjoyable for you.
Kind regards,
Becca

A group of us went for dinner and everything seems to have taken a nose dive. I recommend here and was really embarrassed at how the meal turned out. The food was very poor, fish in soggy batter, vegetables not 'defrosted'/cold. One burger as almost completely raw. The deserts was bad too. I'm not sure how you burn the life out of a crumble and make lumpy cold custard...Such a great shame, they used to present fantastic food, freshly cooked (not frozen burger patties) it was delicious. I raved about this pub for a long while after it had it's reopening. I won't go again as this is the 3rd time I've had really bad food. It's a good pub for a quiz and a drink but don't go to eat.

Following its extensive alterations about 18 months ago this pub was very good. However, the service has now gone very downhill and the food quality has also deteriorated - now overall 5.5/10.
Regretfully, the previous clientele - have not gone elsewhere and what is in many ways a very attractive dining pub is ruined by loud and vulgar group of workmen in the bar area. I know friends who have stopped using the pub because of these types.
