Disappointing experience
Nov 2021 • Family
I have come in today for a lovely sunday lunch with my family, as I have done many times before. The roasts were lovely as usual. However, I was sat behind 3 young girls and the manager came over and was shouting at them. Regardless what it was about, i am disgusted that someone would treat a customer like that- let alone a manager. I am truly shocked at this behaviour and unprofessionalism. It totally ruined the atmosphere for me and my family. I don’t want to come back, and I’m really disappointed as I have always loved the roasts here. I am unsettled and I can’t wait to hear from you.

Disappointment
Aug 2021 • Friends
Third time visit but will not be returning. We feel menu very different which is good but prices quite high for the quantity and quality of what we had. My husband ordered a small plate which was to be Asparagus , smashed avocado on sour bread, with sun dried tomatoes .he got broccoli spears boiled, hard avocado, hard sour bread and normal tomatoes not sun dried. My husbsnd could not eat as he could not cut bread. But it was not as the menu so sent it back and was asked if he wanted another plate he choose calamri larger portion than mine but not that great. Had better. They were fair and didn't charge for my husband's meal. But the pub was empty inside. No atmosphere.other visits were better. Sat outside then but today was too cool..

Quick Late afternoon lunch.
May 2021 • Family
Me and my sister are usual customers of this pub. We came in yesterday afternoon for a bite to eat because the food is always good and it didn't disappoint this time either!👍But the service yesterday was a bit slower than normal because it appeared that one person was doing all the work. Which isn't fair, the lady that served us looked rushed off her feet while the other member of staff lazed around the bar area.

The rising price of dining out in pubs
May 2021 • Couples
Yes, ok, I’m a tight Northerner, but here goes....
Booked a table for two yesterday, obviously outside because of Covid rules. Mid afternoon & the place was packed! Offered a table with no cover but declined. Why would we want a table that has no cover with the predicted rainfall that day? Come on The Grove! Invest in more canvas! Typically as our food arrived the rain arrived too!!! Good decision. A number of tables were rapidly shuffled, including ours, to get further under the large canvas. The rain was torrential! Anyhow let’s get to the grub & drinks! 1 pint of bitter. 3 glasses of Prosecco. 2 250ml glasses of red wine. Total cost just under £43! If you ever wonder where your money goes!!! Yes its the ever increasing price of drinks in pubs!!! This is why COVID lockdowns have shown people how much money is being put behind the bar in the pubs!!! Less pub outings & more drinks at home for us!! Food?? Got to say the food was great! We both had the chicken, leek & bacon pies. Had asked for one to come with chips & the other with the on the menu crushed jersey potatoes. Both came with chips. 2 items ordered & the ‘special request’ part cocked up! Come on kitchen!!?? Luckily the chips were pretty good. I guess we could have been awkward & sent the one back but we are really not into eating separately at the table! Now even though the pies were good I was a little taken aback with the content of the plate. The pie was tiny! Must have been about 4” diameter (just over 100mm) but more of an issue, almost flat in depth! I would have said about 1” thick if that. Alongside the mini pie were 3, possibly 4 very small pieces of tenderstem broccoli, the chips & little jug of gravy. For the price?? It was ridiculous!!! £17.75! That’s each BTW! So, the conclusion is that once the rush & novelty wears thin with customers now that Covid rules are relaxing these pubs that are charging £80 for a bit of pub grub & few drinks will begin to see trade drop away. Don’t take the mick Spring Grove! If you want customers to return you need to give value for money! & not serve adults with children’s meals! I’d rather go to a restaurant & pay around the same £’s! There’s dragging back Covid losses but in the long term you are going to lose out!
We won’t be back too soon.....

Happy evening in a pretty garden hut!
May 2021 • Friends
We had a brilliant night at the Spring Grove, first post-lockdown night out for a group of mates, and we had one one of the garden huts (currently in the UK, pubs and restaurants are open for outdoor dining only). The whole garden looked so pretty with its fairy lights, there was a lovely hubbub of chat and laughter, and the hut was gorgeous and warm (has a heater yay!). From the get go the welcome, service and food and drink were fantastic. You order & pay from the Youngs app on your phone and it works really well. The food was delicious - really good pub food, burgers, bangers & mash etc - every staff member was friendly and professional, and all the covid-safe measures were there. We loved it and will definitely return!!

"We made a mistake on the reservation- you are going to have to move" Staff member, SG.
Mar 2020 • Friends
Unwelcoming atmosphere and unimpressive, scruffy staff made our visit to watch the six nations memorable for all the wrong reasons. Our party of six left after one round of drinks having been moved from one table near the bigger tv screen to a three quarters empty lounge area with two tiny screens where a private party was in progress. As soon as we sat down, two female staff members began to shift dining furniture noisily around by our table, giggling - futher adding to the feeling that we were just in the way. Please sort out your reservations policy - if a table says 3pm and it's 4.30pm and unoccupied , customers can assume the space is free surely- not be bumped out ofthe way when the reservation punters rock up and hour and a half late aggressively claiming to know the Manager.

Hi there, We are sorry you had trouble with your booking, we do understand that the table appeared to be free when you arrived and can appreciate it was frustrating for you to have to move from your seat. Mistakes happen from time to time and our oversight on the timings meant there was some confusion for both your table and the reservation. Please be assured that we did not intend to 'bump' you out the way- I believe a conversation between the manager, your party and the reservation took place and it was explained what had happened to ensure clarity between you both. We do encourage booking on all our advertisements for the rugby as we tend to be very busy with private parties alongside table reservations for sports fixtures. We tried our best to find you another seat where you we able to see the screen as best we could despite the other room with tv screens being booked out for an event. With regard to the furniture being moved- we do apologise if this was noisy, unfortunately this had to be done to ensure another reservation was set up for later in the day and this can sometimes be a little distracting. I believe I spoke to a member of your party and ensured he was not in the way when he asked to get out of his seat as we were moving tables. If you would like to further discuss you experience with us and provide any suggestions on how we can make your next visit more accommodating and less stressful for you, please feel free to email me on springgrove@youngs.co.uk and I will be happy to chat with you. Kind regards, Becca Sales & Marketing Co-Ordinator

Staff grubby and charmless, and all very overpriced.
Food lazy and tables uncleared, so maybe needs people to wake up a bit.

Hi there, We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us on this occasion. I find your comments about staff being 'grubby and charmless' rather surprising, as we have not received feedback like this before, our staff work hard to ensure everyone feels welcome and enjoys their experience at The Spring Grove. Also, our head chef ensures all food is served to the highest quality and takes great care in presenting his food for customers and this feedback is rather unusual for us. We greatly appreciate any feedback during a visit so we can continue to provide the best possible service to our customers and rectify any problems there and then, to ensure everyone leaves feeling satisfied that their issues were correctly resolved. If these comments had been passed onto us, I can assure you this would have been rectified, and any food that did not meet your standards, would have been replaced or refunded. It would greatly help if you can let us know what date and time you came in and what you had to eat so myself and the our head chef can work out why these issues were not sorted for you. Please feel free to email this info over to us at springgrove@youngs.co.uk and I will be happy to chat further about how to make your next visit more enjoyable for you. Kind regards, Becca

Friendly local Young’s pub.
Jan 2020 • Friends
Friendly pub with a large Gastro Restaurant section, in what is a quiet local residential area. Young’s beers plus other tide offerings. Beers kept pretty well, but often than not the “others” options run dry.

Bar area bright and airy with some seating at the bar and tables by the fireplace. Another seating area to the side offers tables for all sizes of party.

The Restaurant area is pretty large too, situated at the back of the pub, over looked by the kitchen.

Try the nut roast
Jan 2020 • Family
I had a nut roast and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was full of beetroot, nuts and came in a Bloody Mary sauce. Also it was huge but I made myself finish it because it was so delicious. It was my first time in this pub and everything in it impressed me. It’s been furnished in a lovely and unpretentious way. Great service too.
