Beautiful and Vibrant

I really enjoyed seeing all of the different stalls. It is a lively place to be.

There is a lovely pub, The Druid's Head, which is the perfect place for lunch.

Kingston Market

I love the market in Kingston. I'm buying there fresh fruit and vegetables and delicious bread. There are also stalls with vegan food.

Saturday morning croissants

The market is a good source of fruit and veg every day of the week. My personal favourite is a walk by the river, a coffee from Fortunella (in the Apple Market) and a chocolate croissant from Oliviers.

I am also a sucker for lunch from one of the many food stalls at the weekends.

Kingston Market Square
Dec 2019
The Kingston Market Square at Christmas time is a great place to wander around, listen to the music, shop and enjoy the English Christmas spirit - not to mention all the varied food stalls and steaming hot drinks!

It just doesn't have the wow factor!
Sep 2019
It’s a picturesque spot for a bit of browsing if you happen to be looking around Kingston Upon Thames, a pleasant riverside neighbourhood to the south west of central London. But to be frank, on the grand scale of things, it probably wouldn’t make an appearance in my list of top 20 local community markets that are worth a visit (as a stand alone attraction) in England. And I’ve been to many.

There’s no doubt that it’s an ancient marketplace. The oldest surviving records about it date back to the early 1200s. The golden figure of Queen Anne on the balcony of the Italian-styled old town hall, now Market House, has gazed out over the marketplace since 1840. The latest ‘transformation’ was in 2014, when new mottled grey stone paving and new seating were installed.

These days it’s home to about 20 stalls: fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, a fishmonger and butcher, an artisan bakery, and a number of food stalls selling international fare. The stalls operate from around 10.00 to 17.00, at least 6 days a week (I’m not sure about Sunday).

The old marketplace is certainly picturesque, but the collection of market stalls didn’t have enough wow factor to keep me lingering. However, I have been to the marketplace just prior to Christmas, when the stalls are a little more plentiful, strung with seasonal twinkling lights, and are contained within traditional wooden chalet style huts. Around Christmas there’s also a large traditional wooden German Christmas pyramid (a Weihnachtspyramide) in the middle of the square, to enhance the festive atmosphere. This seasonal adornment certainly makes the marketplace a little more interesting and enticing, and thus a better time to visit.

By all means visit if you are in Kingston. There are a number of other curiosities in this location, and seeing them all will add some substance to a visit to this this corner of London.

Must see and eat.
Aug 2019
The market place has been transformed and now has great stalls to eat. I had Pao for lunch and it was amazing. Lots of flavours and hot. Loved it and the atmosphere was outstanding. The old market has been restored and is totally pedestrianised. Safe for families with young children.

Art And Architecture

Visited on a Monday in July. Inside is filled with spectular fabrics, material, vintage jewelry. This is not your grandmother's home made pot holders this is true artists. Quality, quality, quality. Outside were several food vendors. Recommend.

Pleasant walk

It's pleasant just to walk around and see so much colour in the fruit & veg stalls. Also great variety of bread bakes. A large choice of market food too

A great way to spend an afternoon
Apr 2019 • Couples
What's better and more British than a leisurely stroll in the market on a sunny day? I very much enjoyed this little town with some lovely architecture and quaint views. I would like to see more of craft and arts than food in the market, maybe on a weekend you get something more interesting.
