I had a tour of The Bishops Palace on a Wednesday afternoon with guide Jacqueline. She has been guiding there since the 1980s and has excellent knowledge as well as being friendly and approachable .Although it is mainly a wedding venue now it has a very rich history going back centuries and has been visited by many monarchs. There are many periods of architecture and lovely views as it was a clear day.Would recommend this tour and it was even more rewarding as I had a voucher from a local newspaper giving me free entry

Came here for a wedding and staying overnight
We had a wonderful day and evening at Farnham Castle .
From start to finish everything was excellent , best wedding food I have experienced.
I do think the bar area is on the small side ,and not very accessible for the older generation as there a a number at steps to get to the bar area and a number a steps to the garden area . But we had a great experience nevertheless

We attended Farnham castle for a wedding. We booked our room a few months ago and said we were with the wedding party. We were told it was £130 including breakfast. We assumed we wld b staying in castle and were not told otherwise. We checked in about 6ish and was told we were in an
outbuilding called white lodge. We did not say anything as it was a wedding but on entering our room it smelt of smoke there were stains on the carpet which looked like tea or coffee had been spilt a long time ago. The toiletries in bath which were fixed was right up high so in bath you would have to keep getting up to use this. It was a very basic room at a price and if we were told it was not in the castle we would never had booked this. We were very disappointed as we go away a lot of weekends different places from B&B’s to hotels and all would come out tops against our room at castle so if you attending for a wedding make sure you know where you would be sleeping.

We visited the inside of Farnham Castle for the first time having lived in the area for 22 years. The visit is entirely free, although you can make a donation if you wish. There us a small museum as well as the extensive and very beautiful gardens. The public parts of the Castle have been carefully preserved and restored and allow the visitors to climb up through the outer walls and onto the top of the Keep. Thus affords incredible views in every direction. I don't know why we waited so long to visit, probably because we had visirlrors who expressed an interest. It certainly pays to visit the attractions right on your own doorstep! A really great afternoon out for couple or families. Lots of steep steps so not suitable for the very young or infirm. Highly recommended and with plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby when you need refreshing after the walk up the hill to the castle!

Attended a wedding here recently and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced more disappointing service from a venue of this calibre - poor is an understatement.

I was presented with my starter and when I asked what it was, the server replied ‘parfait’, after pressing for more detail he laughed and said he didn’t know what it was - did your catering staff now have a briefing before starting the wedding breakfast? Not good enough, especially when you consider the price of what you charge per head. I had to ask 3 people what it was and eventually managed to find out it was chicken liver parfait.

Your staff should know what they are putting down in front of your guests, it’s pretty basic and not difficult to have w service huddle before serving your guests.

The bar set up was nothing short of chaotic, the bar is not equipped to handle the amount of guests that you permit at events. Again another really poor experience, it took ages to get served, and you ought to think about your Gin prices considering you don’t even have garnish - shout out to Wes though who was trying his best to sort everyone out as quickly as possible, very friendly.

The following morning’s breakfast was yet again chaotic, disorganised and painfully slow. You expect your guests to be out of the rooms by 10AM (ridiculous) yet it takes almost an hour to get a sausage sandwich served. The staff are clearly inexperienced (which is not their fault) and do not know how to manage large parties of people. Basic requests such as to have things replenished took an age to organise, I lost count of the amount of times I was apologised to.

I do have some positives, the rooms albeit basic we’re comfortable and clean, the venue is beautiful and we managed some stunning photos. Whilst inexperienced, the staff were very friendly and tried their best, but it was clear they just were not used to being in a premium service environment and require more training.

You can forgive a lot about the venues product if the service element is up to par, sadly this venue was ill equipped and massively let itself down, it’s a gorgeous place to get married and whilst we had a lot of fun celebrating with our friends and family, I personally would avoid booking here if you want to have an extra special day.

Farnham castle needs to invest in its people in order to deliver a premium wedding experience.

It's free to enter the castle, it's definitely worth going if you are close by. Not far to walk from the town center at all and a park is very close by too

When in Farnham this is a great place to go for a little history and walk around. It is easy to get to and has a lot of character. I would recommend if in the area.

The Bishops Palace,Farnham Castle . Having booked on line to visit the palace for 2Pm tour of The Bishops Palace on a wet afternoon and arriving early we were pleased to receive a very cheerful greeting and invited to sit inside until the tour Started . We could only agree with the enthusiastic guide wha describe it as the hidden gem of Farnham . A very interesting tour and well worth the £5.00 for the hour and bit tour, afterwards you can visit the castle keep, museum & grounds .

We managed to visit in early March, when there was a wedding in the main building, but you could still visit the keep outside. There was a small museum giving more details about the castle history, and the various Bishops who had lived there over the past 900 years, including Bishops of Winchester. There have also been royal visitors to the castle, such as King John, Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. There is a covered well in the keep, and you can descend some steps to see the thickness of the walls.

Many thanks for your review. We appreciate our guests sharing their experiences with others, almost as much as we appreciate the beautiful piece of history we have the privilege to work in here at Farnham Castle. I hope you get the chance to visit us again soon.
