The Playhouse is quite a small, intimate theatre. There's nothing grand about it, it's fairly dated, but having said that, it's fit for purpose. It has a fairly good size bar area, but it was difficult getting a drink as it was very busy. I'd recommend bringing a bottle of water/etc to save queueing up if you're not having anything alcoholic. It's joined to the multi-storey car park, so there's easy access if you're not so mobile.

I review this as someone who hired the theatre, produced, directed and compered an amateur show. It's a great venue, albeit in need of a painter and decorator, but that is in the domain of the owner, Epsom and Ewell Council. Nothing was too much for the staff, from Elaine and Louise when booking the venue and having technical advice beforehand from the stage manager, Simon. Indeed, Simon was ever helpful and accommaditing on the night. When this is all over, if you want to put on a show and can sell 400 tickets, a great choice of venue. (Easy parking too.) (although below says October 2019, it was September 2018.)

What an amazing find - bi-weekly high quality jazz from a variety of top musicians in the Studio Theatre. Brilliant music, a pint of beer and a really friendly, convivial atmosphere. Support your local theatres, support live music. This is a gem - I’ve never heard a mediocre band play here, they’ve always been top class.

Generally pantomimes are not a favourite of mine but ,having made an exception, I was spellbound by this excellent production. The cast was superb and, apart from the usual laughs, the second half was an astounding experience once the 3 d glasses were used. I was attacked by all manner of snakes etc.The venue has an excellent bar , great staff and comfortable seats. We are returning this month.

Really negative experience dealing with box office. Tickets for a show cancelled due to Covid. They say they sent an email out advising new booking date. Never received. Now won't accept a refund on our tickets.

Having really enjoyed the amazing Beauty & The Beast panto at the Epsom Playhouse in 2015 we returned this year full of expecation for their production of Aladdin.

Without doubt it was the worst, most shambolic and badly produced production I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through.

There were no celebrity names in it this year - the best they could muster was a bloke from storage hunters called 'Heavy D' and a lame impressionist from Britain's Got Talent.

The production started off badly, with Heavy D slurring his way through the limited lines he was given as the genie, and the whole think lumbered on from there, with a cast who who clearly had no acting experience and leads who couldn't sing to save their lives.

Last year's panto at Epsom Playhouse was witty, with a professional panto dame on stage and a cast who improvised and riffed off each other with great double-entendres to entertain the adults. This year, the humour was gone and it was quite uncomfortable watching the lame gags fall flat on their faces. All we were left with was a couple of hours of very uncofortable ham acting with no proper storyline.

It's not the cast's fault - the producers clearly struggled this year to cast anyone decent and most of those on stage had no idea how to act or how to engage an audience. I don't know what was most unfair - putting a bunch of amateurs on stage in front of the public, or charging £20 a ticket for people to see it.

Some of the more professional supporting cast made a decent effort at it, but the 'leads' struggled to project their voices and enunciate properly, so it a lot of the time they were inaudible and my 7 year old barely laughed through the whole shambolic production.

£60 for 3 people to sit through a dreadful slapdash mess of a panto! Never again. Shame on you Epsom Playhouse.

Visited this theatre many times over the last few years, this time for Aladdin the Panto on day 3.

The ushers were dreadful, not a good start! A lady in what appeared to be a Scout uniform was bossing our group about telling us to get into the auditorium but by her very presence blocking the entry! Not sure if she was in official duty but.....

The older gentlemen checking tickets, well I say that but he was just grumbling that the 'whole place was madness' tearing tickets and throwing them back at us! Very rude and to be honest if he can't cope with a full house he shouldn't be there. Not a great attitude with a theatre full of children either.

The show itself was poor. We weren't expecting top standard but 'Heavy D' - whoever he is, was inaudible! Jokes were just not funny, singing and dancing very amateur. The saving grace was one of the headlines from Eldorado, yes Eldorado - I kid you not!

Pay a bit more and travel to Wimbledon I'd say. As for the theatre staff, some customer service training would be good!

As a whole, the seating in the main block is good and i have seen some good shows & performances BUT, seats on the side to the rear are totally overpriced, uncomfortable and awkward. Last week, I had to sit on the edge of my chair for most of the evening and look over the trellis balcony because that was the only way to see the lovely Suggs on stage. The person to my left also had the same problem & i had to lean even further forward than he. It really spoilt the show for me and at £27, it was not money well spent.

Intimate venue near Epsom High Street.
We saw a George Michael tribute act in the auditorium.
Acoustics good, stage in the centre and not off to the left as it appears on their seating plan.
Friendly staff, very small bar area which gets very packed before the performance and at the interval.
Seats very close together and not a lot of personal space, especially when everyone stood up to dance. I appreciate that not all shows demand this and that you may well sit down for the whole show however, there was no elbow room and we sat with tucked elbows and legs along with most others for the performance .
It didn’t put us off but we found it cosy!
We would go again as they have some great shows.
