Could be alright, were it not for the clientele.

This place goes through new managers like water. Every single one says they've got great plans for making it a live music venue, which boils down to getting a few acts on and a karaoke night (all on an atrocious sound system - one home 4 channel mixer and two monitors) set at ear bleedingly loud volume) monopolised by a couple of locals, before they move on again. Probably because they realise what they're faced with.

Tried to support the music side, but grew tired of the 'locals' being extremely aggressive, strangely enough mostly after they returned from the gents. The last straw was when two friends were repeatedly harassed for their appearance - presumably you're only allowed in 'their' pub if you have an £80 shirt and £300 shoes (or you're there to buy *something*) - and another friend was sent flying when a bunch of locals decided they liked the band and started shoving everybody around. If any of them read this review, being a bunch of overweight and *sniff* *sniff* 50 year olds pretending they're watching Nirvana in a local pub does not give you the right (or make it funny) to deliberately hurl yourselves into ladies who use walking sticks when they're trying to get past. And a real mosh pit (or wrecking pit, for that matter) is where you help people up, not laugh inanely at yourselves for being so amusing.

If you wondered about the beer garden, it's some rickety tables in the carpark.

Regularly pop in hear, friendly bar staff, and great on a Sunday night, with the karaoke,

Never tried the food. But if you want cheap alcohol considering the location, a nice chilled but trendy pub, then this is for you

Level Vibes

A typical neighbourhood club, The Edge keeps the locals happy but will never be a destination venue.

The Venue
Adjoining The Norbury, the exterior of this club is borderline tacky, sat in a yellow building with big letters declaring ‘THE EDGE NIGHTCLUB’ next door to the rather old-fashioned bar. Inside, it’s a nightclub by numbers, comprising of a simple bar, a large dance space and lots of flashing green and pink lights and lasers alongside a few big screen TVs. It’s a club straight out of your student union.

The Atmosphere
The Edge is definitely a club just for locals and it’s likely that you’ll spot the same young faces in here week in, week out. Guys and girls in smart-casual wear hitting the dance floor and snogging as the night wears on. Trainers are allowed inside and so the door policy is pretty relaxed although it’s not a place that screams trouble. It’s just a neighbourhood club getting on with things.

The Music
Apparently, The Edge pulls in ‘top DJs’ although their regular DJ Jaxon X isn’t going to be performing at SW4 anytime soon. Playing a mixture of RnB, dance and club classics every week until 3am, it’s all about the crowd pleasers and getting people on the dancefloor – and, in fairness, he does manage to do this. An interesting addition to the line up, however, are live rock cover bands who aim to get the crowd jumping up and down to hits by acts like the Kaiser Chiefs.

The Drink
The Edge has drinks similarly priced to The Norbury and, unusually, they include draught Guinness and Budweiser in the club area. There are a couple of cheap spirits on the optics, including Archers, Gordons, Southern Comfort, Lambs Navy Rum and Jack Daniels. It’s not exactly the most inspiring mix but it keeps the party people happy enough.

The Last Word
The Edge may well be many people’s idea of a nightmare clubbing spot but for the loyal locals it serves as a perfectly fine party spot for dancing and – hopefully – pulling.

Good for nights, bad during the day
Apr 2015 • Couples
This pub has a real good vibe going for it at night time when it's busy and has a bit of atmosphere.

However, if you're looking for a chilled drink during the day, maybe try somewhere else. Me and my mrs popped in for a late afternoon drink and the bar staff seemed more occupied with chatting with their mates than looking after us.

It's good to be good when you're busy. But be good when you're quiet too and you'll have it spot on!

great little pub
Sep 2014 • Friends
pub is under new management whom have some really good ideas about changing the pub and boosting sales. they talked alot about making the pub into a music venue which would be pretty awesome as the pubs character definitely sways that way. the live music they currently have on is original, daring and varied. they have several regular sets during the weekend with two DJs who play alternating weekends. the crowd of regulars are pretty much the same old guys. new bar staff who are very friendly and polite. new beers on draught. they even stock Kozel on tap. large variety of wines. the only down side to this great pub is the lack of food, but unfortantley due to its neighbours along the restaurant quarter its never gonna be a place for food. all in all still my favourite pub in Croydon.
