About
The Borehole is a brewery tap for the Lymestone Brewery and is based on the same site. It has never been a pub before so this is an exciting refurbishment. The pub will serve a range of Lymestone cask ales and bottled beers as well as other drinks from local and distant suppliers. A log burning stove provides a central focal point

Really like this pub and in the past have given it 4/5 stars but now.?
Went last week and had to wait an age for a drink but just thought give them time to get their act togeather
Went back today and waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order ,was then told there were 5 tables in front of us waiting for drinks ,given there was only one waiter we just give up and left as did the table next to us who hit the nail on the head when they said people are using covid as an excuse.
Not sure whats going on but if you cant get the staff or dont want to pay them then dont be greedy and dont open.
I will think twice before going back and it is a shame as this is a nice little pub which is doing itself no favours

Hi Thanks for your review and your opinion... but I cannot disagree with you more. The staff have been through a terrible time, been put on furlough, worried that they will loose their jobs and the industry has been decimated! Across the whole of the UK hospitality has been brought to its knees, and if you cannot be patient or be nice to us then you are probably better going somewhere else! I am proud that after being closed for 10 months we managed to re-open our doors, we did not go bankrupt and we have held our head above water. I have been incredibly ill with covid and despite this the team have soldiered on and done their very best to keep our business going. We are not greedy, we have not stopped paying our staff, and we have kept as many of the original staff as possible - although many have moved to other jobs. All that I can say is that I hope that you have shown the same level of patience and support to all the businesses you visit

The borehole as a pub is excellent , the beer and food is spot on. The pub is quirky with a great fire at the centre and the staff are very welcoming.
The beer selection is great. This could be the local that all adults want, but the last couple of times we have been in recently it feels like a creche. Young children running around and rolling around on the floor (people take their dogs in so the floor could be dirty anyway), they were differant families each time but the parents just sat chatting with the children running around screaming and knocking into people with drinks. We don't begrudge children in pubs but the parents need to consider their children's behaviour in an adult environment or take them to the wacky warehouse where they can run about and roll on the floor.

The borehole should be a pub not a kids playground. Disappointing last couple of visits-.

Really good pub, shame about the service! 3 staff on view yesterday, one of the nicest days of the year so far. One was a glass collector - trainee, two were serving however, every time ice was required (often) one went to get some, leaving one to serve and then, he would leave the bar to give a food order to the kitchen or go to the back to get a tray for someone. On requesting two baguettes.....not toasted just cheese & tomato, I was informed that, as there was only one in the kitchen, it would be " a while".
I therefore decided to eat crisps..........people arriving after us ordered food and were served 3/4 hour later!!!!!
As stated, really good pub however, staffing and experience of staff requires improving.

Hi Many thanks for the review of our tiny little pub and I am sorry that you did not think that we were up to standard. I take on board your comments about the weather, the busy nature of the day, and the quality of the staff, however in mitigation to your experience I can add the following comments:- 1. You may not be aware but we do not have a full kitchen, just a small food preparation area which is why we only do a small range of food items. The food prep area can only fit 1 member of staff inside and that person is responsible for all that happens in that area. It makes us a little slow, but there is nothing I can do to change this. I am pleased that the staff were honest with you and explained the situation rather than just taking your money and making you wait. 2. Having visited the pub you will be aware that the pub is also very small, so all of our equipment is small too! The ice maker has a small capacity and so additional ice has to be collected from the freezer in the food prep area or the outer store room, again nothing I can do to change this. 3. The glass collectors cannot work on the bar, they are not old enough. 4. The bar has just been refurbished to make it larger, but can still only fit 2 people behind it in comfort. I am pleased that you like the pub - but this is part of the problem. We are very small, and we are very popular at the moment, so sadly we cannot always act on or respond to requests as soon as we would like. Please come in to see us when we are less busy :)

Hi Thanks for the comments you have raised about your visit to the Borehole and the member of staff on duty. As you will recall from your previous visit and as you can see from other reviews this is highly unusual, and not what we have come to expect from our staff at any time of the day or night. They are well trained and always receive praise from our customers. If you wish me to look into this matter further please contact me at the brewery on 01785817796 as you do not specify a day or time so I am unable to chat to any of the staff team or find out what caused this problem I do hope that you will try us again when you have been out for another walk Viv

Don't go to this pub if you don't like good beer and cider it's got some fine gins too
Very friendly place, dogs welcomed. It's full of local and not so local people. Like stepping back in time. Best pub in Stone

This is a new pub. You don't get to say that very often. It doesn't serve food, doesn't play music, have darts or pool and it doesn't have any special events. It's just a very pleasant place to meet and share a drink with friends. There are sofas, tables and chairs in this relatively small local pub that is an outlet for the independent brewery just across the road. It has a great choice of beers, lagers and spirits and deserves to do well.

Thanks for the fab review of the Borehole. There is no-one more surprised at how well all the local people have taken to our new venture than me! Despite all my planning and refurbishment I was not sure that it would work as it has, but it seems to be doing OK with people liking my quirky style! I hope that you are still popping in to see us and finding a quiet spot for a pint :) Thanks again Viv

I remember coming to the borehole when it first opened, enjoying coke classic out in the sun from a glass bottle. The staff, the atmosphere, and the dog friendliness was perfect. Since you discontinued stocking ‘real’ coke, and draught pepsi, I haven’t returned. If it comes back, I would be delighted to return to your pub as it is a one in a million pub, and I love coming in to see your dog. Until then, however, I will not return. I anticipate your reply...

Hello We have had the draught dispenser now almost since we opened and although we used to serve sugared Pepsi, when the sugar tax came in we made a decision not to purchase the very expensive sugared drinks but to have the low sugar alternatives instead. We cannot stock all the ranges of drinks available as they would simply fill our fridges and hold up sales of other products, however for several months we have stocked Fever Tree sugared coke in the fridge in a glass bottle available to purchase at the increased cost due to the government tax. It is always available as no-one ever purchases it! Hopefully this will be more flavoursome and to your liking and you can come and see Sparky. I do not have Coca Cola and if this is what you want you need to call in and tell me and once the fever tree has gone I will purchase something else instead Kind regards Viv

Have been regular customers on a Monday evening for some time now and have always found it to be friendly, welcoming and have great service. What a contrast this visit was. The usual young man who is so friendly and customer focused was absent this evening. The two female staff were abrupt, not in the least friendly and appeared totally disinterested. We were served on each occasion without any please, thank you or acknowledgement. It was exceptionally quite so there was no excuse that they were busy. If this had been our first visit we would not return. We have visited all three of the breweries other pubs and this was the worst experience by far. I can only hope it is an isolated incidence otherwise I will be taking my custom elsewhere. It costs nothing to say please and thank you with a smile. The usual Monday night male is a credit to the place and we will certainly visit again to see if this was a one off. As a small independent brewery this where you can really make a difference in the service you provide.

Hi What a shame you have had a poor experience in our pub. And an even bigger shame that as a regular you reacted in this way to an unusual event and you chose to put a message on here and not come and speak with me about the problem!!! I am based in the building and work Monday to Friday 7.30 am till approx 6 pm or later if I am on the evening shift or working at the brewery so I am easy to contact. Please can you contact me urgently on my email address of mrsbrad@btconnect.com with the date and time of your visit as without this information I will not be able to see who was on shift, ask about the problems and find out the details. If I have your email address I will also be able to respond to you directly about your perceived poor service. As a regular you will know that this is not usual for our staff and I am sure there will be an explanation for the change As for telling me about customer service as a regular you will already know that good customer service is what we do!! Many thanks for bringing this to my attention Viv
