A pub that is still a real pub
Dec 2014 • Friends
The Pheasant is one of the last corner pubs left in the town. It is a very friendly and welcoming place that has quiz nights and very popular sunday dinners once a month. For visitors to the town looking for a chance to mix with the locals it is well worth a visit offering well kept guest beers and bar snacks. A beer garden is also part of the pubs attraction. Owners and bar staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A log fire in the bar gives a warm welcome. Would recommend visit. I regularly visit and have never been disappointed, Liz P

A local pub at it's best
Dec 2014 • Friends
I have to confess that this pub has become my local for the past few years. It is everything a local pub should be. Warm, friendly, welcoming and a real community asset. It's not a restaurant although food is regularly prepared for the many visiting darts, dominoes and crib teams. Sunday lunch is also served and special occasions are willingly catered for.
Cask ales are always on tap and service is always with a smile.
The Pheasant is the perfect place to take visitors from out of town, especially those from abroad who want to see a real British pub.

A rarity !
Dec 2014 • Friends
If you're looking for a sports bar with TV screens in every corner, shoulder-to-shoulder, standing-room-only drinking and loud music, go somewhere else, there are loads of places like that.

This is a warm, homely, traditional public house in the true sense of the words. Places like this are disappearing at a terrifying rate, so much so that The Pheasant should be supported by the National Trust as a living heritage centre !

It's one of those street corner pubs on the edge of town that's managed to survive up to the take over by the present management and it's better than ever ! Great beer, great service, a great atmosphere, darts, skittles, dominoes, local banter and the rarest of today's commodities... conversation.

I really can't say any more, except that places like this need the support of regular customers so try it, if you know what a real pub is, you'll love it.
