The Fairoak trail is a 2.5 mile circular which runs alongside the pools which had loads to keep the kids interest going.

Fab family day out
Jun 2021 • Family
Today we finally decided to try the Gruffalo orienteering
.
When planning the trip, as always, I searched the the location and read a few reviews.
.
🌲we packed a picnic, with plenty of snacks and drinks

🌲we entered the address for Birches Valley Forest Centre into the Sat Nav (you don’t want to go to the visitor center)

🌲we packed spare clothes, a towel and shoes suitable for the stepping stones

🌲once we parked, we paid for a full days parking £8. You can pay online, but we had limited reception so we couldn’t

🌲we bought the map and activity packs from the cafe, and also used the toilets. Miss 5 enjoyed ticking off the images, whilst Miss 8 enjoyed following the map
.
🌲we downloaded the GruffaloSpotter2 app, it didn’t work perfectly, but still added to the fun
.
🌲we didn’t rush; we stopped to explore the shelters, fairy garden, ‘3 bear’ chairs (that’s what the girls called them) and have snacks/drinks
.
🌲Miss 21months was happy in the push chair and joined in when we stopped to explore. She just fell asleep when she needed it, and the path was fine for the push chair. Bikes and scooters would be fine too
.
🌲the trail took us about an hour to do, and we didn’t do it properly. At the end, there is a play area, where we ate and then the girls played.
.
🌲we then walked back down to the cafe, got ice creams, then headed back to do the fairoak walking trail, which I knew had the stepping stones. Here we cut across, and stopped to play
.
🌲after getting dry, changed and having another snack 🤣 we continued on the fairoak trail, but didn’t do it all as the girls were getting tired. So we circled round just before the first pool
.
🌲there is so much more to do; we will return for both @goapecannock which looked amazing, and to try the different bike trails. We saw families riding on the fairoak trail (green), but there is also other trails. Others were just enjoying the open space, having picnics and playing ball
.
I would definitely recommend visiting ☺️

Beautiful

Loads of wildlife and a beautiful forest. There are clearly marked walking, pushbike and riding trails so you don't get lost walking around and plenty to see, explore and learn about 🌿

Pedestrians relegated
May 2021 • Friends
Bike trails around Fairoak Trail NEED to be reconsidered; too much potential for collisions with pedestrians. Used to be a lovely walk, now ruined by cyclists tearing around! What was wrong with the previous bike trails??!! VERY DISAPPOINTED and terribly planned!

Disappointing.
May 2021
Plenty of thought gone into cyclists needs but felt could be more seats for elderly maybe wanting to rest in between walks. Parking was £5 two hours, £8 all day. Nothing in between. Could not really do walks and coffee at leisure in two hours. Hot water tap in toilet had very hot water without prior notice and burnt my hand.

Great place for a walk/bike with the family
Oct 2020 • Family
I love Cannock Chase, it is the perfect place to have a nice relaxing walk with the family or for an adventurous bike ride. It has everything to offer and has beautiful surroundings. We really enjoy walking around here and it is somewhere we aim to visit more often

Wonderful Place
Aug 2020 • Family
We stayed in the nearby Silver Trees lodge park, about 5 mins walk to Cannock Chase forest. We did a number of the walks and also the Go Ape. We didn’t hire bikes although it looked great fun. As a family of 4 including a 13 year old and a 9 year old we loved the place. It has something for absolutely everyone. We forget at times how many great places we have in the UK. Cannock Chase is beautiful and Cannock Chase Forest is a superb day out.

This forest as it all, not just the beauty of the forest its self, number one for me is Go Ape,a beginner's level where you will be shown the ropes,no pun intended.
The more experienced levels, where you will get higher into the canopy and find difficult trials ahead of you, there are 5 levels and allow three to three and a half hours to complete.
Experts on hand at all times, your safety is paramount, training procedure given that you must follow before letting you loose on the aperatus.
Anyone who likes cycling then this is the place, lots of trails to follow to put you through your paces,if you don't take your own bike you can hire them.
Sedge courses can be seen and done here, walking and also dog walking with a obstacle course for your dog 🐶 to complete this forest as got it all fun for all the family.
Car parking costs are a little steep but if you are staying all day then £6.00 is possible okay.
Whilst visiting the area we went twice to this forest, whilst I was up in the trees my wife was with our dog completing the obstacle course.
Porto style toilets can be found on site also a small cafe, bench tables are socially distanced to prevent the spread of corvid19.

My son’s training for his expedition
Oct 2019 • Family
As my son spent 2 days in a tent for this training, I booked a B&B. I walked in this park for 2 days and I took amazing pictures. Good memories. Yes, it was cold, but the colours of the autumn were compensating every inconvenience with their beauties.
