This statue was erected in 2003 although it seems longer ago than that. What a fabulous tribute to Coleridge's masterwork, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". Of course Coleridge lived nearby in Nether Stowey where a museum is incorporated into his house, Coleridge Cottage. Apparently,...More

This representation of the ill-fated mariner at the heart of Coleridge's epic poem, is simply a masterpiece. Its creator has been able to scupt all the pain and supplication of the original in this bronze.

I didn’t realise until this visit that there was a connection with this area and the poem of the ancient mariner. The statue is certainly well photographed. Perhaps it might encourage a bit of research about the poem and its author.

Well modelled but has little that you could attribute a remembrance of Coleridge's poem. Maybe it is a pretty harbour when the tide is in but I have only seen boats sunk in wet sand. Not worth a special trip to see.

This is a pretty harbour village with some good cafes notably Chives. However there was very little to see here. The harbour is supposed to have the 2nd highest tide but when we came the boats were sitting on wet sand! There is some lovely...More

As a family with two young children we found Watchet to be a bit boring... The statue of the Ancient Mariner is a fine statue, but on its own it is just a statue. We stopped for about 30 seconds and then my oldest son...More

If you’re near by Watchet, then I recommend a trip to the harbour. Apart from the usual sites, there’s also the steam train stopping on its daily route. The place holds many happy memories for me, so had to give it a mention. :)
