This great hill is very good for your health, shopping and your wallet. Try it! It has lots of interesting and quirky independent shops and the best eateries and watering holes, particularly if you like to eat and drink well sourced products, prepared with love and care and at accessible prices. Fortunately, not one of the usual chain stores has yet ruined the character and feel of this hill. Support its independence and originality and have a good time!

Pretty cobbled street with some interesting boutique shops. Worth the walk to see this part of Frome.
We walked from the Market Place up Stoney Street, turned right up Catherine Hill, visited the Gas Lantern just beyond the model shop at the brow of the hill. Back down bear right down Paul Street joining Palmer Street. Check out the side alleys and wonderful old houses as you walk. Turn left down Bath Street hill and right into Eagle Lane (check out the bric-à-brac shop on your left). Left at the end and almost immediately left into Cheap Street. This narrow alley has a number of small shops and places to eat. This will bring you back out into the Market Place. Our stroll only took about 3/4 hour. Intriguingly Cheap Street (and to be noted so watch your footing!!) has an open stream / gutter flowing down the centre of the alley. Ideal for kids to get their feet wet.

Someone who lived in Frome for several years told us that this was the Main Street to visit. So we managed to get a parking space within about 10 minute walk and then went to this pedestrian only very steep hill. There are lots of small independent shops and a few cafes so it is a nice place to visit for a short period.

This area of the town is quaint and charming with lovely old stone buildings and no traffic. Sadly however there was a significant amount of empty shops and many of the ones in business had decided not to open on the Friday between Christmas and New Year. No independent cafes either. More life and open shops further down in the modern, less appealing shopping centre. We also noted alot of litter lying around on the pavements across the town.

We planned a short staycation to support the English economy after everything that’s been going on. Deciding on a stay in Frome we spent one evening exploring the town.
The hill itself if quaint and full of lovely independent shops, but many restaurants in the are were shut for eating in (Thanks again Covid!) which was frustrating.

Not long, but lots of interesting little shops and a nice wine bar at one end. Certainly one of the streets in Frome that every visitor should look at. Also good for photos showing just how steep the streets are.

Visited golden goose today to be spoken to like dirt by the lady/owner? Of the shop absolutely disgusting! If you have no customer care then you shouldn't be working in the retail environment. Took my daughter in to look for a birthday present when I was told off by the lady in the shop for touching the toys! It's not like my daughter was hurting the buggy. I wanted to check the height was right for her. Due to the rude nature of the lady/owner? She lost the sale. Finally I would never go here again.

Such a great collection of eclectic, independent shops with panache and verve to explore. The pleasing architecture, ancient cobbles, and beguiling window displays invite you to wander and linger.

Frome has a wide range of lovely independent traders who really seem to make an effort in presenting their products well. From Florists to Artists to Vintage to Antique. Catherine Hill is a cobbled hill within the Town that has a wide range of these shops situated on it. A great stroll and nose around in all of them is well recommended
