Shouldn't be trading

Tried to visit Youngs Farm shop just before the lockdown but was told it had closed permanently a long time back.

When visiting in the past we had gone in the cafe on site for a snack so thought we would go again and we found that hadn't closed as well. But wished it had because we had a nightmare. The middle of our lasagne was still frozen and there was mould on our cheesecake which the manageress told the waitress to scrape off before serving it to us. WHAT!!! To cap it all a rat ran in the door from the children's play area and ran along the skirting board and across the bottom of the serving counter. One customer screamed!!! It was like a Carry On Horror film!!! Plus the staff were being treated very rudely by the manageress. I don't know if they were the students working there or permanent staff but they didn't deserve it. Horrible.

Derwen College for special young people
Feb 2018 • Friends
I have visited here twice now but sadly both visits have been very brief. I have called in when taking my mother to the orthopaedic hospital. I first visited in November last year but only visited the shop. There was a lovely selection of Christmas goods. Couldn't resist the lovely fabric Christmas tree bubbles. Yesterday my mother and I called in for coffee in the Orangery cafe. Lovely coffee and the food smelt great but didn't have time to stop and eat as she was due for her hospital appointment. Prices on the menu seemed very reasonable and we hope to call in again. Lovely to see the young people around being taught life skills to enable them to lead happy fulfilling lives that most of us take for granted. This college is invaluable to these young people and doing excellent work.

Derwen college is an amazing place that gives young people with learning needs a helping hand, the cafe they have is so lovely and they also have wifi so you can do a spot of work if you wanted to.

A special place

We went on one of the Derwen College open days. It may not be entirely apparent to visitors to the coffee shop and garden centre that it is part of a larger and long established college supporting young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. What impressed us was how well it was all done - lots of facilities and very well kept. It's great to help support an organisation that does such good work for the community.
There's lots to see and do and it is also good value.
