Had a long lunch here with family, first time visiting in many years, and it's still as lovely as ever. Very charming old pub with lots of character (including the obligatory low beams and twisty steps), super-friendly management/staff, delightful garden out back. It was a quiet Monday but we were welcomed in and fed excellently - everyone was very happy with their meals, my gammon, egg & chips was outstanding and the fish&chips looked very good too. Would be very happy to have a local as good as this.

Having been to the Eyston Arms a week earlier I was jubious of another trip to Hendred. The Wheatsheaf however was an excellent pub. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. I thought it was excellent value for money and will definitely be returning.

Our first time here for Sunday lunch, but it won’t be our last. Really good food, very friendly service and a good selection of drinks, including free chilled water on the bar. Very quick service, large portions too.

One of those Friday evenings where you can't be bothered to cook, and didn't book... went in search of somewhere new..
First pub we tried in the village was packed, so we didn't even stop, assuming it would be booked up.
The Wheatsheaf was very quiet! Empty car park and only a dozen people drinking in the bar, which has us worried... too quiet! However, our fears were unfounded!
Great fish and chips, big portion, reasonably priced (but at the more expensive end of pub grub). Quick service, although we were the only ones eating, and super helpful!
They even had a nice little dog that came to visit to see if we would share (so dogs allowed too)
Will defo visit again, garden looked amazing too!

A great Sunday lunch on 7th May. Everything was cooked perfectly. Roast lamb with Yorkshire pudding and loads of vegetables. Charming staff in classic old country pub. We'll return to enjoy the garden when it's a bit warmer.

We settled in our first visit to the Wheatsheaf on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews. The menu is traditional pub grub. It is an unexciting menu and so different, and cheaper, than the Eyston Arms.
The service was good and the food was also good. The portions were huge. Overall I would say the food wasn't sophisticated but it was good and certainly great value. For a Friday night I was surprised it wasn't packed. It deserved to be. Thank you.

The Wheatsheaf, situated in the very picturesque village of East Hendred, is quietly developing a very good reputation.
The proprietors, Bill and Carmel, provide a blend of warmth of welcome, with a wide range of well cooked dishes, all very reasonably priced.
