Went here with family friends to have a warm chocolate during the Wantage Dickensian Evening in 2019. Really lovely place! Run by volunteers and what a great job they do. Also nice to see the little shop still running. Will try the museum at the back next time I'm there as I know it's been renovated.

Literally popped in for a coffee and so had a cheese scone at the same time. Luckily it was quiet (just 4 others) and so plenty of room. Service was very good & very friendly. Coffee was hot (many others are just pathetic lukewarm offerings) and scone was good.
A happy Bunny of a customer.

Popped into this lovely local museum this morning to get out of the rain! What a super place. Excellent exhibits and explanations and a very good cafe. We will be back - quite new to the Wantage area so pleased to find somewhere to take our visitors if they are not able to enjoy the local countryside because of the weather or mobility issues.

This is such a well presented and interesting Museum, with well put together displays, both physical and via technology.
Drinks and refreshments are available in the on site cafe.

It is off the centre of Wantage but well worth seeking out. We visited it on a Wednesday and were on our own most of the time going round. The staff are very helpful and as my partner is disabled and on a scooter the went out of there way to assist us. Please ask if steps are a problem as there is a ramp. The exhibits are interesting and there is a viewing studio explaining all about the Vale of the White Horse. This museum should be on the itinerary of all visitors to Oxfordshire. There is a small cafe there and the food and staff are excellent. A very pleasant afternoon out

Absolute delight ! Probably the best 'local' museum we've visited. Filled with people of all ages but the sound of kids enjoying themselves the best impression. Can't wait to bring our grandchildren.

do you have parking on site
Vale and Downland Museum
Wantage, UK
Hi Albert, unfortunately we do not have any parking on site but there are a number of car parks not far from the Museum, the closest is at the Beacon where there is 2 hours free parking this is only a couple of minutes walk away, there is parking in the Market Square but this is limited to 30 minutes, alternatively you can park at either Sainsbury's or Waitrose which is then a short walk of around 5 minutes to the Museum.
