Great views

Even though you cannot go into the folly itself, the views of the surrounding areas are lovely. There are all sorts of wood carvings in the woodland surrounding the tower(look for the toadstool circle for hints as to where the carvings are located(brilliant for both kids and adults).

The folly is a perfect little escape, cute sculptures of animals, the giraffe and the stunning folly tower are all impressive, I’d absolutely recommend a walk up there

A magical forest with beautiful woodland, plants and birds

One of my favourite places to walk around regardless of weather, I always discover something new when I visit. A unique landmark and really great place to take friends and family regardless of age.

Far to many people friends and families meeting up during national lockdown with no social distancing what’s so ever.. and people trespassing on the farmers fields that surround the folly woodlands. I walk my dog here three times a day morning lunch and late evening, over the years it’s been quite but during the past year during the covid outbreak it’s been busy and busy during the week and double the amount at the weekends.

Shame it was once a Lovely quite place.

Such a magical place for toddlers. With various carvings and other creations for them to find. Great picnic spot. Plenty of shade. Really lovely.

Great place to kill an hour with a fab view

Lovely wooded area surrounded by fields to walk up, around and about. It’s free to park and wander around. Links to the Country Park and playing fields across the road. Often windy up the hill but most often a cracking view across the Thames valley and south to the Uffington White Horse. You can also see across to Swindon, but you don’t have to look over there!🤣

In the summer the folly tower is open to climb 1st and 3rd Sundays (costs a few pounds to get in) but currently shut due to COVID. Fun for the kids with carved animals and other curiosities hidden around to find and climb on, as well as ‘four and twenty blackbirds’ to hunt. Also some good informative signs around to highlight the history of the site and the town. Top off your visit with a stroll down to one of the coffee shops or pubs in town!

Treat for the family

Spoilt with this being on our doorstep. You can venture up every day of the week and see something new, unknown and views you didnt see the day before. The hunt for obscure statues and carvings make it interactive for everybody.

A steep climb but clearly marked paths and the view at the top is amazing. The Sudbury House Hotel is adjacent

This is just one of my favourite places. So much effort is made by volunteers to add to the already beautiful setting. It is a wonderful place to take children who can safely run through the wooded areas & search for the hidden crows in the trees. The majestic Folly Tower is just stunning & a very special place to me.

A great place to visit

The Folly is an iconic building on top of the hill, it is surrounded by woodland and is a great place to let the children roam free - far from cars & traffic
