About
The Abbey Cinema offers a state-of-the-art cinema experience on a huge nine metre projection screen, high-spec acoustic wall coverings and advanced Dolby 7.1 surround sound to enjoy all new releases in style. Alongside this brilliant technical set-up the cinema is hosted by a staff team of the most friendly and bubbly people who will make your cinema experience feel even more personal whoever you are. Offering a finely stocked bar, a hot food selection that will please even the fussiest of eaters, cinema seating and even cabaret style seating . Furthermore, as well as all the latest blockbusters screening 3-5 times per day, the space will also be used for hosting live events such as comedy, musical performances, film theme nights and live streams of National Theatre productions making our cinema a dynamic multi-use space.

The whole foyer was decorated beautifully for Christmas with the smell of fresh popcorn and friendly staff making it feel so welcoming. I had preordered food and drinks and these arrived at our table in a timely manner during the trailers. It was quite a long film but the high back red chairs around a table make for a comfortable viewing experience, plus the fact that it’s possible to order more drinks by text from your seat is an added bonus. It’s so much more than going to watch a film, with the comfy chairs around tables or the spacious seating in rows. We found that all the Abbey Cinema staff were friendly, helpful and determined to make sure that our visit would be a good one. This includes the door staff, the Bar and Food staff and the staff in the studio where we saw Lady C. It goes without saying that it was a treat to hear and see Lady C. This was my first visit to the Abbey Cinema so didn't know what to expect but was pleased to find a cosy little venue. We went to see the showing of the Formula One Silverstone Grand Prix here 2/8/20. The staff are really helpful and relaxed. We had very comfortable armchairs with a table where we were served the food and drink we had pre-ordered. They have taken all the corona virus precautions you would hope. Overall a really good experience will definitely go again.

Such a great experience! So nice to be able to watch a film in comfort (lovely comfy seats with blankets on too), order drinks and food to come to your table and great selection of films. Another bonus is that it isn't deafeningly loud like some cinemas are.
Brilliant for the kids too, saturday mornings are positively civilised with delicious breakfast!

It is difficult to overstate the value of this cinema to Abingdon, which has been without a cinema for far too long. The owners of the Abbey cinema have been hugely imaginative in their refurbishment of the unpromising building which was put at their disposal. Fitting it out with tables and chairs, supplying food and drink at the tables and providing a varied menu of up to date films, they have surpassed all expectations, and it is truly a shame that they have fallen victim to the Corona virus. We can only hope that they will make a speedy return once the crisis is over. They will be welcomed back with open arms.

I love The Abbey Cinema. They've managed to turn what was a grotty 70s civic building into a unique cinema. Being able to sit in comfy chairs at the tables is great, as it being able to order your refreshments using your phone and have them delivered right to you. While the films themselves are no better or worse than anywhere else, it is the atmosphere and the approach of the staff that makes the difference. Worth mentioning that this is a cashless venue - which as an ApplePay junkie I totally approve of - so don't turn up expecting to pay with cash!

After being quite cynical about the idea of the old Town Hall buildings ending up as a cinema, we've ended up coming here many times as a family, to enjoy some of the biggest recent movie releases. With a state of the art screen and sound system, a decent bar, and table service for food and drinks if you want it, it's a quirky and charming place that's quite unlike any of the normal 'chain' cinemas you might attend.
There's a second screen in the old theatre next door but for most releases we've tended to book the larger screen in the old exhibition hall. The prices aren't too bad considering it's an indie (far better viewing experience than the Curzon in the new Westgate complex in Oxford). Booking couldn't be easier, either through the web, a phone app or directly from the booking office / desk.
So pleased to have something like this in Abingdon. We've needed the cinema back for years, and now we've got a brilliant one so really hoping they stick around and are well supported by the community.

Such a lovely place - small and intimate, but with great sound surround. Very comfortable, either sitting in armchairs around tables to which food can be ordered, or in the tiered seats - only 3 tiers, spacious and well tiered so never a problem to see.
Staff are friendly and welcoming. Quite unique.
My only reservation is that the entrance prices have crept up, plus a booking fee is charged even when you go in in person immediately prior to the film. I only go to the cinema infrequently and will pay it up to a limit, but I'd hate to see such a gem price itself out of the market. Must be a difficult balancing act to stay viable.

An absolutely lovely treat for Christmas Eve was spent here watching West side story. The atmosphere was great, social distance was adhered to, the set up of the quaint and unique cinema is something I’ve never seen before. We chose to have a seat with tables. Drinks were left for those who had pre ordered them, food is available (including pizza, chips, kids meals etc) if you didn’t want to miss part of the movie, a mobile number is left on your table which you text, and you refreshments are bought to you by the cinema staff. The cinema appeared to be clean and well presented. Although it was more pricey than “Vue” or “Odeon” cinema the experience here so much better, and with covid measures in place I certainly felt safe here. I will definitely return, and recommend this venue to my friends and family.

I love this cinema. No queues, no honk of popcorn instead, a warm personal welcome, staff who care a lot about your comfort, a comfy chair, table, beer and an appreciative audience. Parking really easy close by. Sure, it is a little more than a Vue or Odeon, but parking locally is free and it is so much more civilised. So glad they have made it through the lockdown.

sorry for delay im sure you found parking but incase not the council office car park is free after 6 pm and there is a car park as you enter abingdon on the left and right hand side called rye farm car park
