About
For the first time in thirty years we are delighted to bring a brand new state of the art cinema to Abingdon! Presenting... a modern cinema in a medieval setting with a newly installed state of the art digital projection and Dolby sound system. Set up in an ancient monument, The Unicorn contains an exquisite theatre where guests can cosy up and enjoy a glass of wine with the latest film. The Unicorn is a true community venue and in addition to films and screenings hosts live events.

Well, this is a bit different!

The Unicorn has been running for a while and was a great community venture, but as a cinema a 15C tythe barn is a little cold and uncomfortable. Not so the new screen in the neighbouring Guildhall building. A 10m screen, tiered seating (large and comfortable) plus cabaret style seating at the front, heating, and great sound. Slightly more expensive than multiplex cinemas in Didcot or Oxford, but an altogether better experience, and a real boon for Abingdon that deserves local support.

New cinema!
Dec 2018 • Couples
The unicorn cinema now has two screens, the newly opened screen is housed in the guild hall. We visited it for the first time on Saturday and were amazed at the transformation. It is going to be a real asset to Abingdon showing a wide range of current films and classics.

What a great venue! It's like being with a group of friends in someone's front room, where a couple of old pals grab guitars and sing to all assembled. So intimate and relaxed. Great hosts and great company. Will definitely go again and again.

Lovely building, but not very comfortable.
Aug 2018 • Friends
It is great that this beautiful building is being used and provides a local cinema showing many of the newest films, with nearby parking (free in the evening). Staff were helpful and friendly. Refreshments are available.
It is very small. Don't sit too near the front or you will get a stiff neck. Luckily it wasn't full and they changed our seats to the little balcony which gives a really good view.
If you just want to see a film it's great, but don't expect the full cinema experience - no surround sound (which you couldn't expect here), no air conditioning, making it stuffy on a hot evening, and the seats are rather hard and cramped.
However, it is a great addition to the town.

Hi Laura Thanks for your post but we have no involvement at all in the Am Dram productions at The Unicorn Theatre. We are The Regal in Evesham, who show films there at times when it is not used for other purposes.

Stunning historic venue, dreadful seats, cramped and stuffy
Jun 2018 • Family
The show was great - "and then there were none" - top class Am Dram in a wonderful historic setting, but, the nasty office style utility chairs were crammed in and so uncomfortable it really spoilt the show.

On teh plus side, £12 is not too much to pay for a great performance and the volunteer staff did a great job with refreshments.

So Unicorn - do please get a grant for some decent seats, reduce the density and charge a little more.

Will we go back - I dont' think so.

Excellent: an entertaining narrative, a well delivered biography, at times educational, with a sense of humour.

A great local venue for the latest films and interesting shows
May 2018 • Couples
We've been going regularly since the cinema opened earlier this year - we've seen more films than we ever would have before as it is a short drive from home and easy to park near. It's a lovely setting; the staff are really friendly and its an atmospheric venue to watch films. One the downside - the venue can be cold so take advantage of the travel rugs they offer and the seats are not that comfy. But, on the whole it's a great venue.
