Came for their open evening and it was absolutely fantastic!
Cloudy skies but that didn’t take away from it being such a brilliant evening.
Learning about the equipment and history, the talk was so interesting, I picked up some amazing photographs and even got to see how you can listen to solar flares.
Really friendly folks, can’t wait to come back!

I thoroughly enjoyed a visit here. The talk by Steve was very interesting. The old water tunnels were amazing. The radio frequency section was fascinating, but too complex for me. What clever people run this place! The highlights of the evening were seeing Jupiter and Saturn through the telescope and holding a meteorite older than Earth. Wow!
Huge thanks to the volunteers that run the observatory and I hope your exciting plans for the future come to fruition.

My 14 year old son has enrolled on a course here. He attended his first session this evening. He found it fascinating, the members were dedicated, friendly and they really fuelled his enthusiasm to learn more. He is really looking forward to the rest of the course. Totally accessible to all, a real asset to our local area and beyond. Totally recommend them.

Everyone really enjoyed the visit to the observatory. The volunteers were all extremely helpful, and adapted it to suit the children.
Well worth a visit next time after the scouts have studied their badge will bring them to the observatory to gain their astronomy badge.

Interesting

Today me and the wife visited the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society open day. Don't know much about the observatory or what they exactly look at so I thought I'd spend an hour there but stopped for nearly 2.5 hours. Everybody there who talked about the various activities on site were enthusiastic without being geeky or OTT in their presentation. Very interesting

Great Night out under the stars.

A place of interest for a birthday visit, interesting and a great alternative Saturday night out. Something you would not do everyday but well worth a visit.
Not expensive, and we all learnt something new.

Wrap up warm and give it ago.

Lovely day
Jul 2019 • Family
We attended the open day today and was advised that it was a little cloudier than they had hoped and that we would not be able to see the sun. They kindly reduced the entrance fee which was not necessary but a really nice gesture.

The folks were knowledgable, passionate about their subject and friendly. It was child friendly and a great experience.

So excited for the future and the work they have planned.

Looking forward to visiting again!!

We went today for their open day. The weather wasn't great for viewing the sun but we had a fantastic couple of hours anyway. We enjoyed some really interesting talks that were very well put together, knowledgeable and easy to understand.
We had a look through some telescopes, touched the meteorites and even went down the Victorian water tower they've just purchased for development of a new planetarium.
Great, friendly staff who are genuinely enthusiastic about the place.
Highly recommended.
