What a fantastic place to visit having never been before. Me and my partner took our two young children here on Friday for dinner whilst we are enjoying travelling around Nottinghamshire for a belated small birthday vacation. We hadn’t booked which had been a problem getting into other places during the week, so I was expecting the same issues here on a busy Friday. Conversely, there were no such problems here. Dawn, the super friendly and welcoming manageress got us seated straightway and made a complete fuss of the little ones. The service from then continued with a lovely young waitress, (I forget her name so apologies) taking care of us and making sure that the children were happy also throughout our visit. Nothing seemed too much for the staff. The food was very good and although a couple of puddings had sold out, we were informed of this, and it did not diminish from the experience one bit. Both my partner and I were too full after the very generous size portions we had already had, and my 3-year-old son had ice cream with chocolate sprinkles that Dawn very kindly brought out to him from the kitchen, so as far as he was concerned all was well with the world. The whole operation looks very well run and certainly will be somewhere we would highly recommend and will definitely be back to visit on our next trip. Thank you for making our little post Covid holiday experience so enjoyable!

Terrible
Jun 2021 • Family
Do not come here if you want service with a smile. Came for Father's Day meal and the service was terrible, the man that greeted us didn't seem interested we was showed to our table and basically told it's a reduced menu! Still no Sunday dinners and you have to order through the app and was left to it. Nobody came to see if we was okay or wanted any help it's not like this in most pubs/restaurants you go in.
We felt like we was an inconvenience and the lady manager she never cracked a smile. We asked about the free drink for dad's on Father day and the waitress said 'Are you sure i don't know about this'! We then felt we had to go on there website and prove this was what they were offering, how can staff not know what offers are on- please don't put an offer on if you don't want to go through with it!. Food was average but not great and limited menu wouldn't return.

Not Great
Jun 2021 • Family
Never again. We booked a table for Father’s Day, was greeted by someone who looked like he just dragged himself out of bed. Dumped us on a table never explained how the app works and generally just didn’t care. Other staff we seen was running around like headless chickens without a clue.
One staff think he was called Jon, short hair and glasses was collecting empty drinks, noticed we was struggling and kindly asked if we was ok, despite how busy he was took the time to explain in detail how to order and what wasn’t available on the food menu, really nice chap and the only one who knew what he was doing and had motivation, also noticed he was the only one who greeted everyone with a smile when he was walking around collecting.
Lack of menu options and nothing on the steak grill was available. Overall the food was nothing to shout about either.
The only reason this is having two stars is because of the one member of staff mentioned above.

Extremely poor service
Jun 2021 • Family
We were met with an eye roll and some huffing and puffing as it was apparently busy. We were told we couldn't see a menu and had to order via the app after having to register to do so, even though we were struggling with internet connection. Nobody came to check if we were okay, we finally after around half an hour managed to get sorted to place an order for the Internet to crash.
We finally get our food, service definitely didn't come with a smile, we were made to feel like criminals after a misunderstanding over a bowl of chips. Finally, we enquired about the supposedly 'free- drink offer for pre booking on Father's day to be told staff knew nothing about it and a huge song and dance around if it was valid. Again, made to feel like we were asking the world, we certainly didn't feel special nor valued. We were then asked our names, again being made to feel like criminals and finally after half an hour we got 2 free pints and were told to keep it quiet and tell no-one else?!?! Why bother promoting a special offer if you have no intention of seeing it through.

The worst customer experience I’ve ever seen!
Jun 2021 • Friends
Honestly the worst service I’ve ever seen from anywhere within Hospitality. My party and I were sat at a tall table, and a woman (with no mask on) came over to us to tell us to wear a mask. I was gob smacked at the hypocrisy. The gentleman who served our drinks outside was awfully rude, we asked if we could get served and his response was “what do you want? I’m about to have a cigarette. Can you wait until after I’ve had it?” Which is genuinely awful. As a Bar Manager myself, I would never consider giving customers service like this. Not a single member of staff was wearing a mask, and no regards to COVID rules. DO NOT GO!

Customer service? I don’t think so...
May 2021 • Friends
We visited on Sunday 30th May. As COVID restrictions were still in place we booked a table and sat outside. The man who initially ‘served’ us was brusque, but just about civil. All orders had to be done using our phone and an app. When younger members of our family party showed us how to do this (zero help from our host) we placed an order for two drinks. The Rushley was almost empty; they weren’t exactly rushed off their feet. After 35 minutes when our drinks hadn’t arrived I went in to find out what had happened.

Firstly, I was told that I must have ordered the drinks for a different pub and than that I hadn’t placed the order correctly! When I proved this was not the case, he found the slip and then told me that our drinks had been served to us and implied that we were trying to pull a fast one! At no point did he apologise whatsoever, nor was his behaviour pleasant. He was incredibly rude.

Eventually the lovely woman who had been serving us came out, full of apologies and our drinks. She had been really pleasant throughout our visit and I have no criticism whatsoever of her; just the rude man at the bar who behaved as though we were an absolute inconvenience and it was beneath him to serve us. It might seem a minor thing to complain about, but the attitude of this man was awful; he behaved as though we were idiots and was spectacularly rude and dismissive. We were celebrating a family engagement, and his behaviour took the shine off it a bit. I certainly won’t go to the Rushley again in a hurry, even though it is on our doorstep.
