We come here several times a year, it's relaxing and a nice place to slow down for an hour or two. The train tickets are inexpensive; the train ride has always been real stream when we've visited which always means a more pleasant ride in my opinion (no noisy diesel engine pulling the trains). The line currently has two stations, you ride to one end, they couple the steam engine to the other end and it pulls you back. Whilst at the second station the train drivers generally let you have a good look at the engine and have always let the kids have ago on the engine whistle which seems to never loose it's attraction! The passenger carriages are small (it is a narrow gauge line) but spacious enough that you don't feel cramped.

There are lots of play facilities and a small shop; so, the kids can play and Dad can get a coffee. We will be visiting again!

Visited today with 2 children under 5, a lovely, well kept little gem to visit with young children. A lovely play area for under 5s with a few pieces of play equipment for older children. Unlike most places no charge for parking or entry and the train ride was really affordable and enjoyed by all. Gift shop prices also really reasonable. We had spent an enjoyable couple of hours there and would definitely return again.

This is a lovely little place , the train trip only cost £9 for a family of 4 and was about 15 min long . All staff were very friendly and made us very welcome . Love the extra little play area behind the hedge and the remote control boats

It might be worth popping in if you're passing, but I wouldn't make a special visit. The train ride is quite short (although there are plans to double its length it would seem) and the other facilities are a little bit dated unfortunately. The price quoted on the website (£2 per ride) had gone up to £3 for adults and £2.50 for kids. It if had still been £2 we may well have paid for a second ride, but as it was we were probably only there about half an hour. The fact that it was wet didn't help because there wasn't really anything to do or look at.

We have visited a lot and met some lovely staff, they’ve been very informative and helpful and we’ve enjoyed the railway and park a lot.

This was the first time I remember having met you.

Your website says last train at 4.30, your social media post on instagram at the beginning of November says last train at 4 so we trusted the social media post.

I pulled into the carpark just after 3.45 on and dashed round to nursery next door to pick up and run back for the 4 o clock train. Whilst I was waiting outside nursery, my parents arrived in your car park about 3.50 and were told the gates were about to close, the last train is at 4 and we’ve missed it.

I walked into your carpark at 3.55 to a barrage of “the last train is at 4” “you’ve missed the last train” “you haven’t got time to buy a ticket before the train” (a load of rubbish because I’ve been on your train about 10 times or more and it takes 1 minute to walk carpark to shop, 1 minute to buy tickets and 30 seconds to get on the train.)

You continued to maintain “you’ve missed the last train”, at this point it was 3.57 so no, we hadn’t missed the last train as it wasn’t due to leave for another 3 minutes.

You finally said there had been no one in so you had allowed the fire to go out. If you had led with this, a simple “I’m sorry folks but we’ve been really quiet so have let the fire go out and there are no more trains today” then fair enough, no problem.

Instead you lied, tried to push it back on us that we were too late, that we didn’t have time to catch the train etc.

As I said to you, I WAS going to buy season tickets next year, family of 4 FYI and previously regular patrons of your coffee and ice cream supplies.

Driving Smokey Joe was a fantastic experience for me in my second childhood! Bob is an excellent trainer, pleasant, patient and clear in his instructions, on how to use the regulator, blow the whistle & put the coal into the little boiler. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the train along the 15" gauge half mile track & back a couple of times. The things Bob told me about the loco & the railway were interesting too. All the staff are friendly. Tickets for the train ride are very cheap and the site is geared particularly towards young children. Many thanks for a great afternoon.

The couple who were with me were my youngest son & his partner, who are in their thirties, and who gave me the experience as a present. For some reason Tripdvisor doesn't have a category for "Family (Adults)"

This was an absolutely awesome day out! One of the most affordable days out; it just goes to show it’s not all about profit and squeezing every last penny out of people. The car park is free, there is a free bouncy castle for the kids, two playgrounds which are also free and good fun (including a zip line and two massive slides) and a lovely picnic area and cafe / gift shop. The only cost during the whole day is the train ride and even that is not expensive and the children absolutely loved going on the steam train. They got their tickets to hold which got stamped by the very friendly driver and they really enjoyed the ride, especially going through the tunnel. The driver was very knowledgeable and experienced and gave the children time to ask questions about the train. They even got a chance to pull the chain and sound the whistle. Absolutely lovely day out and for the first time we genuinely felt as though we had done them out of money for everything there was there and for the little we paid for the ride! Fabulous day out and I couldn’t recommend it enough; 10/10 ⭐️

The train was a fun experience. You get the usual h & s routine and the controls are explained. You are advised when to apply power and when to decrease and when to ease off altogether on the first run. On the return you take over and can do this all by yourself. You then have the whole experience again. Driver/instructor lived and breathed steam engines. Very knowledgeable and chatty and answered every question. Think he more excited than I was and it was my experience. Relaxed and informal hour or so. May seem expensive for a train ride but it is worth every penny to be able to take control with fare paying passengers too.

I was given a steam train experience for my birthday.
It was a lovely sunny day which made it better. We were met by Bob who talked me through the safety points and how the trip would proceed.
Bob controlled the train for 2/3 of the journey out due to having to brake the train because of the gradient. On the return journey I had control all the way back with instructions from Bob, we then repeated it with another trip were I also had control the horn.
My partner who brought the gift was allowed to travel on both trips and we got a free drink from the cafe.
Overall a lovely experience and would recommend it for anyone who wants to fullfil a childhood dream.

Was looking forward to travelling on a steam train, arrived and paid £16.00 for four adults, I asked how long the ride was, I was assured 20 minutes. The ride lasted no more than 5 minutes, was expecting to ride into the countryside looking for wildlife etc. I spoke to the assistant after and said I was very disappointed, her response was "most of the line is closed due to the rain we have had", maybe she should have advised us of this before we paid. £16.00 wasted.
