There are some open days or, you can visit by appointment, two days notice required. I's free but they like a minimum donation of £1 per person which is nowt, if you go get your hand in your pocket, it's volunteer run. Good displays, loads of knowledge / info from volunteer, kids love it, get a good group up and go.

A little known gem, a great morning tour
Run by volunteers, the price is a voluntary donation of your choice and the guide was excellent for a 2 hour tour

open day success
May 2017 • Solo
Brilliant time there for the open day. I took my daughter, who of course had to take her toy fire engine with her. The only slight downside and not really a moan, more of a peeve, the plastic firemans hats at £1.50 were so light and flimsy they just blow away so my daughter couldn't really wear it outside, until I got home and managed to form a make shift strap under her chin. The displays and history although small, it was free to get and my daughter loved getting in the truck and wearing the real helmets even though it was a little heavy for her.

Fire museum open day
Apr 2017 • Family
We attended this event at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. All fire engines old and new on display. The children loved looking inside the engines and sitting at the drivers wheel! The museum was very informative and we all enjoyed having a good look at the history of fire fighters. A wonderful display by the firemen, great refreshments and lots for children to do. Would definitely go again and highly recommend. A great afternoon had by all!

What an AMAZING Hidden Gem
Apr 2017
What an AMAZING Hidden Gem, Full of wonderful treasures of the past. As the child of a fire fighter, I found the entire experience so magical and full of Nostalgia. Paul guided us with such Passion you could tell the Brigade was in his blood and that he took great pride in his lifes work. I would recommend a visit to anyone of any age or background (currently it is visit by appointment) ❤️💛❤️💛👍

You need to book an appointment in advance to visit as it is a free volunteer-run place. Paul was really informative and we learned a lot in the couple of hours we were there from him. It's on the site of the current fire station and if you're lucky you get to see the working engines. Our daughter had a fab time. Little gem of a place. Will be taking the in laws for a visit soon.
