Have driven up 4 times, and never managed to get in yet. Always either not open, or closed for a private party. Will not try again. Dreadful management. Never advertise their opening times.

Sorry to hear that you have tried so many times to visit and found us closed. We were open every day of the school holidays. We do advertise our opening times - on our website, on all the tourism websites , on Facebook & on the telephone message for The Sanctuary and on the tourism leaflets that are distributed throughout... Lots of things to do to keep the children entertained. Safe play park, pony rides, feeding the animals and the chance to see the animals close up. All of the animals were well kept, the grounds were clean and safe. We have been asked if we can go back every weekend since! Lovely, helpful staff made the day even better!

The animals were in a very poor state and we left after less than 10 minutes. My 5 year old son said to his daddy "look baby ducks" when my husband looked they were baby chicks which had dried up on rocks in the bird enclosures. The whole place stank and there were 2 young girls looking after the animals... More

Thank you for your comments but we are replying because some of your comments are written without any knowledge and based on assumptions only, incorrectly. The two young girls of 12 "looking after the animals" you saw are neither staff nor volunteers - they are the owner's daughter and her friend taking care of their own horses. The place does... More

Went on a wildlife hands on tour with 2boys here , and its really worth a visit for any animal lover. In all honesty my son is mad about animals but his friend isn't , but both really enjoyed it. It's good to see native species strange how good it is to handle and talk about a hedgehog when we... More

Just wanted to say a thank you to yourselves and all the other visitors who took the time to write very positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We have learnt from the comments this summer that there are two quite different types of visitor to The Sanctuary - those who care greatly about animal welfare and the work we do caring... More

We visited the sanctuary today and really enjoyed it. The animals are obviously well cared for and some of them had great, quirky characters, especially the horses and goats!. Staff were only to happy to answer questions/talk about the animals and the entry fee, snacks and animal feed were all reasonably priced. Will definitely be making a return visit, our... More

Visited after buying voucher from Living Social for £6 and have to say i wouldnt have been happy to pay anymore. It is a small sanctuary and on entering you can see the place in its entirety. It is a little rundown and I feel the dead chicks which are used to feed the larger birds can be disturbing to... More

Thank you for your comment on Trip Advisor and yes we totally agree about your comment about " a little run down". However, do bear in mind we are a small charitable organisation that is run by volunteers and have just survived a long recession, appalling wet summers and a horrendous winter. Our priority is to pay for animal feed... More

Today was our first visit here and we will definitely be going back. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming as well as chatting to us about the wide range of animals they care for. It has a real family atmosphere for a worthwhile cause. You can even sponsor the animals and birds to help with their upkeep costs to feel... More

Travelled 1 hour to get there and 15 mins to look around only to see horses and donkeys . We could nor feed the animals as they had too much to eat and had bad stomachs . Went back to our local park where the kids had more fun
