One of a handful of churches built during the Commonwealth and utterly fascinating inside and out (check out your Pevsner guide before you visit). You can just imagine a gloomy sermon being delivered to the roundheads but the Victorian restorations/additions of stained glass and a high church reredos would probably have Cromwell spinning in his grave... The only downside is that the trees surrounding the church are getting a little out of hand, so it's hard to appreciate the exterior.

There are supposedly only two churches from the Cromwellian era in England. The one in Berwick-upon-Tweed is remarkable for not having a steeple. The inside of it is nothing spectacular, but this church is surrounded by a rather old graveyard, which is partially Victorian, partially 18th-century. Do take your time to look at all the gravestones singing the praises of long-forgotten local people. It is quite interesting.

I'm exaggerating slightly because I think there are 1-2 other churches also built in the 1650s under Oliver Cromwell but this is a lovely example. Very few of them left.
It's well kept and cared for and only a stones throw from the town centre with a big free car park right outside. Recommended.

Unusual entrance. This is a rare Cromwellian church. There's some Victorian stained glass, but otherwise nothing of particular note inside. Not worth a special visit but it's OK if visiting the town and nearby Garrison museum. Parking nearby or a short walk from the main car park or the walls.

A beautiful church located in the town. The vicar is fantastic, very personable and connects well with the whole parish. Attended the Children's Christmas story last year on Xmas Eve and it was great! The building is well maintained and full of local history as is the grave yard!!

A very unique Cromwellian church, stunningly beautiful building. Flat roof, no spires, beautiful old graveyard and trees.

We think this is one of only 3 or 4 churches built during Cromwells time, ie during the Commonwealth. Very simple Church, but beautiful. Well Kept, lots of interest.

The Church of the Holy Trinity, aka Berwick Parish Church, is a lovely 17th-century church (completed in 1652). It wasn't until 1773 that an organ was installed, one which has undergone several costly restorations in the interim (the latest being in the past decade). The cemetery ran out of room in 1860, so most of the tombstones are well worn, especially those carved in softer stone, which may now be unreadable.
We stopped here just because it was next to the first free parking we found in Berwick-upon-Tweed, where we'd planned a stop on our drive to Edinburgh. We knew we wanted to walk the coastal bunker installation that the region is most famed for and found the church a passing interest as we walked by, so we decided to enter. As services were not in session, we took a little time to view the interior; the stained glass is lovely. Then we walked around the building. It's really a nice spot if you like churches. I enjoyed taking a look and I really don't normally go out of my way to visit churches and cathedrals (overdose from going with parents at an early age, which is why I indicated that I'm "not sure" I'd recommend this for "young children".)
