Couldn’t wait to stay on the island & support the local businesses …… BUT! We tried to visit Sunday after arriving on the Island late Saturday, and the place was closed. No worries we thought we will come back Monday. I intended to buy mead for Christmas gifts, I thought it would be a nice touch since we had visited the Island.
Monday, please could I taste the Spiced Mead, a very rude Jack: No, I don’t have anyone behind the bar! Even the lady behind the counter was embarrassed & apologised.
Well Jack, bad customer service = No sales and bad reviews!

A very helpful lady in the shop let me taste several different meads and was knowledgeable and welcoming. The shop had a great array of gifts as well. However, when I went to the till, the lady processing my purchases couldn't have been more different. She was extremely offhand to the elderly gentleman she served before me. I thought there must have been a problem with his purchase as she was so rude to him. However, when she served me, she was also very unfriendly and offhand and didn't seem to like the fact I'd bought postcards as well as bottles of mead. She huffed about having to count them! Perhaps the shop should have someone in a customer facing role who actually likes dealing with people and knows basic manners. I wouldn't recommend a visit to the winery unless you want to feel unwelcome.

Enormous range of products, stretching from Russian stout to jam to mead itself. Staff member was extremely helpful, allowing us to sample two select meads we were interested in that weren’t out for sampling initially. Staff also took care packing our products to prevent any damage, very helpful considering we had a long journey.

I must admit, I had thought this was a museum or an interative experience of an active meadery but realistically it is just a cracking booze shop. The shop has a great range of locally made alchol- quite an impressive range actually.
I picked up some Anwick Rum and my mother and father in law picked up some Lindisfarne mead (when in Rome.)
A big stand out was a chap who poured us some tasters and a special treat of his own as it was my birthday- he called it 'The Black Stag' which I will be making at home next time I have the components. He made this a very special trip and desrves a raise!

Nice little shop with lots of gifts and souvenirs. There are lots of little tasting cups of various meads at the bar which was helpful. Mead not cheap but we bought a smaller bottle.
Staff very helpful and friendly and there is a great cafe next door with seating with reasonably priced drinks!

I used to work in the back and if you knew how the wine was made you might think again. The filters were so old that little creatures would often be found floating in it. The walls had asbestos in them, the equipment was out dated. And the fudge. Oh dear ...

This is my first review of the winery despite living nearby some decades ago before moving. We visit the island every year and it never dissapoints, the winery is well stocked with lots of local produce. The chutney is fantastic and of course the mead is excellent the fact you can sample before you buy makes the choice harder. I can recommend the dark mead or spiced mead however dependant upon the time of your visit they do have various offers on. To the side of the winery is a gift shop where they have a selection of gifts of your visit some products however are overpriced. Final mention to the staff who are helpful and friendly

Thank you for reviewing St Aidan's Winery. I'm very glad you found the staff helpful and friendly and also am pleased you liked the tasting bar since we believe trying before you buy gives customers the option to sample the meads, fruit wines and liqueurs to find something to suit their palate. I will pass you comments on regarding the gift shop pricing to the appropriate manager but I can assure you she has made efforts to find a range of items and prices to suit all tastes and budgets with as much handmade, local craft as possible.
I hope you will visit us again soon and thank you for your comments.

A good place to go and taste real mead, local wines and spirits. Good advice given and a wide choice of beers and other local produce. You can also pop next door for local crafts from the island.

This isn’t just a gift shop, if you appreciate fine wine and quality drinks then you need to visit Lindisfarne Mead. We had a wander around and were able to sample an assortment of drinks before we decided upon what to buy, in the end I bought a smugly expensive aged whiskey which I daren’t open in case it evaporates, and the missus chose some blueberry wine.
The staff are lovely and even recognised me from a previous visit last year, I even got a hug and a free packet of biscuits 😘
Will definitely see you next year when I have saved up enough for another bottle of something special, you Must visit Lindisfarne Mead !
