Discover Northumberland’s weird and wonderful history, from Vikings to wizards, on this full-day tour from Edinburgh. Cross the border into North England and follow the causeway to Holy Island to learn about the island’s ancient Christian settlement and notorious Viking invasion. After visiting the hilltop Lindisfarne Castle, head back to the mainland and continue to Alnwick Castle, a magnificent palace with a completely different claim to fame – as a film location for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey! Beautiful unspoilt beach reached across dunes. Fantastic views of Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle. However our trip was spoilt by a frightening experience when we attempted to return to our car. The cows which had been very docile on our outward trip became very aggressive when we returned. We felt very fortunate to get back safely to our car without incident. Don’t think we’ll be returning!

Enjoyed Rolling down the Sandhills as much as I enjoyed the views, birds and the beautiful sand colour.

A few years ago one could walk from where you park across farmland to the dunes and beach without seeing a soul - now the walk is fairly busy with tourists and dog walkers but this does not deter from the beauty of the scenery. When you arrive at the dunes you cross and find magnificent views of the long and peaceful beach with distant views of Bamburgh Castle. Because of its expanse, the beach is always quiet and you can enjoy miles of golden sand and sea views. There are no facilities here but the feeling of openness and unspoilt coast is the attraction for us.

Visited at the begining of September on a lovely warm sunny day. Its a bit of a trek acrooss the dunes but boy is it worth it. A beautiful long sandy beach with views up to Lindesfarne and down to Bamburg castle.

Absolutely no better than KTWOuk's excellent review in 2016. Just miles of empty sand reached by a winding footpath. Nothing to look at except the sea, the sky, the birds and Holy Island. No fish and chips, no amusement arcades & no WiFi. Got here if you must but don't say you weren't warned!
