Very good.
Sep 2021 • Business
2 nights in The Gryffindor room.

Room - very comfy bed, a bit snug for space, very clean, furnished very well.., wifi intermittent .the bath was lush, an enormous jacuzzi

Pub- very clean & traditional, excellent service, pity there was no evening meals but understandable due to current issues with recruitment in hospitality sector.

Breakfast- Very good, excellent produce, service again was very professional & warm.

Staff.- Lewis definetly desrves a shout out...a credit to the establishment, very professional, well informed bar person & breakfast host.

Great visits x
Jun 2021
Visited the Black Swan several times on our weeks holiday and although sadly no food available we enjoyed the Firebrick beer from Blaydon especially the toon broon Comfortable and friendly bar which was very busy and buzzing with lots of younger locals on our arrival on a Saturday night but quieter during the week with more space. Very well managed and welcoming bar - hope to return x

Not worth going
Oct 2020 • Family
We went to The black swan for a drink. Shown a table and waited for a drink. We were sat at a table that we couldn’t see, it was so dark. Finally had to ask for a drink.
They had been busy with young families so the started to clean the tables which was done half heartily. The same beer mats were left on the table and when they swept the floors the dustpan was put on to the clean tables.
We were supposed to go for a meal there but won’t bother now. We still have the coronavirus and the numbers are going up.

Late lunch and afternoon drinking
Sep 2020
We were greeted at the door by a staff member who informed us about their covid guidelines. Once we had carried out all the necessary steps, we were shown to a table. Food was really quick and all freshly prepared. Portions are pretty big, neither of us managed to finish and we only ordered burgers! The chef did make us some onion rings which weren't on the menu, which was a really nice touch. We did return the following afternoon for drinks and found the standards of the staff to be the same. They were very thorough with their covid regulations and cleaning regimes. We sat and drank til last orders ( we had walked & miles to get there ) and they never let their standards slip. Great to see, a big well done to all of them.

Lovely Sunday Lunch
Aug 2020 • Couples
Visited for Sunday lunch (bank holiday Sunday) after booking a few days before hand. Good thing we did as it was busy and many people had to be turned away due to being fully booked. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place was COVID safe with screens up between tables, social distancing and sanitizer readily available. The meals were delicious and very large portions - my only negative being some lumpy mashed potato... apart from that the meal was spot on! Oh and the desserts were brill too - definitely recommend the salted caramel doughnuts!

Wonderful staff and food

Dog friendly, amazing food- big portions for reasonable price. Had to book due to Covid and then tried to go back but so busy (due to how popular it was!) we couldn’t get back in!

Would highly recommend- very dog friendly and good for vegetarians (and meat lovers!) staff were so nice too
