- Kate H26 contributionsAlnwick playhouse is a fantastic venue showcasing so many different types of entertainment, tonight was no exception. Really loved the attentive bar staff and house staff who dealt swiftly with a small disturbance. The seats are really comfortable and The main act Ignacio Lopez was brilliant , we are so lucky to attract such great talent to our area.Visited February 2025Traveled with friendsWritten February 27, 2025
- margaret h1 contributionCame along today with 4 granddaughters 5 & under to see ‘The Snowman’ what a brilliant uplifting show, the brass band orchestra & conductor & soloists were fantastic! The perfect Christmas experience & I’d watch it & hear it all over again anytime. Thank you Alnwick playhouse for providing quality entertainment that can keep 4 lively little girls engaged 🎵Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten December 14, 2024
- helstravelsRedcar, United Kingdom894 contributionsThis was our first visit to this theatre and we were impressed. Centrally located in the town but plenty of parking round the back for those driving in. Pleasant staff are happy to help. Nice auditorium. Quite an incline and steps to the main bar area. Nice area to sit in the interval. We saw a brilliant 'old favourite'show here and found it very well acted.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 13, 2024

- Nicky712Spalding, United Kingdom529 contributionsWe booked to see The ABBA Story, last minute whilst staying in Alnwick. Fortunately there were 2 seats available. Tickets £29.50 each. The venue is wheelchair accessible with ramps & lifts. Lovely cafe & bar. All staff we encountered were welcoming & friendly. Prices reasonable. Would recommend.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2024

We were a bit early arriving, so sat in the comfortable seats in the foyer. At five past seven, we went upstairs, expecting the auditorium to be open. It wasn't and we were told that it would open at quarter past seven, because they were having problems with haze. Had we known about this when we were downstairs, we could have remained in the comfort of our seats, instead of having the discomfort of standing around for ten minutes.
They weren't wrong about the haze, though you would have expected this issue to have been resolved, long before performance time. The production of the musicals and carols show was very good, though marred by too much bass sound. The choir were barely audible and did little to enhance the performance.

What a splendid theatre this is. The foyer has the box office and a pleasant looking, small cafe and toilet facilities. Leading from there is the bar area. A spiral staircase or lift, takes you to the first floor entrance to the auditorium. Everything is well laid out and the plush red seats are comfortable and have reasonable legroom. There are many other theatres that could learn a lot from this. Excellent views of the stage appear to be had from all around, though the first two rows have glass screens infront of them. It is a bit of a hike up to the very back and a shame that the lift doesn't extend that far. We received a warm welcome and exit. Ample parking is available to the rear of the building. There are also some interesting choices of interval ice cream. Much better than the usual boring and unimaginative types available at most places.

Amazing evening here, for production of ‘broadway’. The program was extremely good and well presented, the piano man was so funny. Cast of extremely talented people. But not forgetting the people on the outside the bar staff (so funny and efficient) the ticket people and Staff above and beyond what a team .. looking after me and my husband.. so caring and thoughtful - thank you - made our night

I went here with a friend for a snack lunch as we had been told it was very nice. Many people must have been told the same as it was pretty busy, but I for one will not be back. My friend had a goats' cheese and something toastie which was just a sandwich made with supermarket granary bread, toasted. It looked dry and unimaginative. I had a ham and pease pudding stottie; the ham looked very nice, but unfortunately, had zero flavour and the stottie was like day-old stale bread. The whole thing was tasteless and as dry as sticks. Afterwards, my friend ordered and paid for two slices of cake and after about twenty minutes, we had to ask again as there was no sign of them. We were told to ask for free coffees next time we were in, in way of an apology, but I'm afraid that isn't enough to tempt me back.

This was our first visit to the playhouse since it reopened following a massive refurbishment, which from what I could see has been extremely well done.
We had a lovely evening watching a film and will certainly be going again. There is a very nice bar and cafe on site too although on this occasion we didn't use them.
My one and only criticism was that the focus on the projector was not good but after speaking to a staff member we found out that it had been damaged that day and was under repair.
Definitely a place worth putting on the wet weather programme.

We saw an excellent French fim here in a small, comfortable auditorium. The ticket price was amazing (£2). Staff were friendly and helpful. The venue had a lively atmosphere. The café was open when the fim finished.

Well, the renovations were worth waiting for. the 'new look' Playhouse is absolutely superb with plenty of space between seats, lovely common areas, friendly bar and lots of good events to enjoy. The acoustics are excellent too. We have been several times since it opened and thoroughly enjoyed each visit. Can't wait to return.

Went to see a concert at the Alnwick Playhouse, venue lovely but the enjoyment of the concert spoilt by one authoritative member of staff, describing herself as the front of house, it took the enjoyment out of the concert for a large number of people attending. Not only would she not let you buy a drink to take into the performance, anybody leaving the concert to get a drink or had arrived 5 minutes late were not allowed access to the show, whilst I understand how disturbing for other people attending people constantly leaving and coming back, it was a concert where people get up and dance etc, really think this venue needs to take a long look at itself and what it wants to be, as this could be a great little venue with the right staff and policies in place, having travelled some distance to see said concert would I go back to Alnwick Playhouse? No, unfortunately it only takes one bad member of staff to leave a bad impression.

We went to watch a movie one evening and had a fantastic experience. It's a proper playhouse, with a bar and spiral staircases to reach the seats, and all of the lovely gilt-and-red-velvet look... but when they aren't putting on plays, they drop a screen down on the stage and show movies. We went to see Avengers Assemble with the kids, and their system easily handled the special effects and soundtrack. Everything was just...nice. Clean carpets, much nicer seats and visibility than in the purpose-built Odeon cinema in our home-town, but easily the best bit was the staff. They were friendly and helpful, and because it's a playhouse most of the time, they actually had ushers on staff who lit our way to the exit with torches when we made the inevitable loo-break with small children halfway through. (They also had the foresight to ask whether we'd like to sit near the exit: we could come and go without disturbing others.) Definitely give it a try!

Hi, we would like to book seats for Ruby Turner in March but we have never visited your theatre before. I notice that the front row is available, would these be the best seats or would they be slightly below the floor level of the stage? If so, would we be better booking the 2nd or 3rd rows?
Sorry to be a pain, but all theatres are different!
Best Wishes and Happy New Year,
Liz Grasmeder
