We arrived here early one misty Sunday morning and were met with the amazingly atmospheric sight of the Church and Castle. The Church, to our surprise, was open for visitors. It is well worth a visit, as the construction mainly dates back to the 11th...More

This is an amazing castle! An idealic setting and charming view across the countryside. There is no shop, no hard sale, but a tranquille castle, church and beautiful ruins.

Nestled in a valley, beside a tiny church, Edlingham is a miniature compared to nearby Alnwick. But somehow you get more of a sense of what it would have been like to live there when you look through the split walls and climb in where...More

Very impressive as you consider how they built this huge castle in this very high location without the modern equipment we have today.

This is a great place to visit, just try doing it on a reasonable day. There are a couple of information boards on site which is useful. There’s a church right by it just didn’t have time to pop in.

The castle is about half a mile from the road and worth a visit. It’s part of the English Heritage ...... signs tell you a brief history of the castle. You can’t help wondering how the people lived all those years ago.... very interesting.

Edlingham Castle started life as modest Manor House that a local bigwig could be lord of. It’s in a beautiful valley with views of the Cheviot Hills and a pretty 11th century church next door. All was well until about 1300 when the Scots started...More
