Took my partner away for her birthday through the week, getting 2 nights stay for approx £170 off booking.com which included access to the spa (not treatments) and breakfast. We stayed in a classic double room on the ground floor which looked exactly as pictured.
Couple of downsides to the room were the bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together and the mattress wasn’t the comfiest. There were really high winds on our first night and the window rattled pretty much all night so needless to say we didnt get the best of sleeps the next night wasn’t as windy though and there was no problem with noise. The bath was advertised as a jet bath however the jets were turned off for health and safety which again was a tad disappointing and lastly a pear of red high heeled shoes had been left in our room from the previous guests... they were in a black bin bag in our cupboard which was a bit eery. Despite these downsides breakfast was brilliant with a buffet option as well as menu. Service from Brett was great, if i’m being honest without Brett this would have been a 3* rating but his nice nature and willingness to please guests made all the downsides insignificant. Brett served us for both our dinner and breakfast. The spa facilities were good although small, offering a pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. I used all of these and felt they were clean and comfortable to use. I would recommend staying here despite the negatives i mentioned as my partner and i had a great 2 nights stay. I would however have been very disappointed had i payed what other guests had paid.

We attended for a spa day as part of a 50th birthday celebration. We had an absolutely brilliant day and all the staff were brilliant. The facilities (swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and relaxation room) were well managed and not overcrowded. We were very impressed with the spa treatments (which were varied per person) and everyone agreed that they were exceptional thanks to the spa staff and we felt truly pampered (which was the intention). We had a 2 course meal as part of the spa day package and the food was delicious and the staff were fantastic in the restaurant and very helpful. We were make to feel special in the bar with the staff taking time out to check that we had everything we wanted. All in all a day we had a day that we thoroughly enjoyed from the spa, to the restaurant/food to the bar. Highly recommended. Thank you

Lovely building set in large grounds.

We stayed for one night in an executive room which was of good size and tastefully decorated.

The bar and restaurant were lovely and the food excellent except for one mistake. My wife is gluten free, they had good gluten free options however they accidentally added an item that wasn’t gluten free. Fortunately she noticed and asked for confirmation before eating!

They apologised however it shouldn’t have occurred.

The pool area is ok.

We will come back as it is a lovely hotel and the staff are friendly.

I visited Doxford Hall on 01/10/2020 for my Mam’s 60th Birthday as a Mother Daughter Spa Day. I purchased this Spa Day on Wowcher. The Wowcher deal was £55 for the two of us - that included a 2 course lunch and 1 hour use of the Spa facilities. I paid a further £96 for two treatments (facials) therefore £151 for the two of us which at first I didn’t think was so bad, until the day.

The hotel receptionist directed us to the Spa and we were then welcomed by two members of Spa staff at the Spa reception. The lift down to the ladies changing room was out of order which wasn’t great as my Mam really struggles with stairs, however couldn’t be helped. The stairs going down to the ladies changing room, and the ladies changing room were both very dirty. The ceiling above the changing cubicles had damp coming through. There were quite a few hand sanitising stations which I thought was good, however NO water stations!!! We weren’t offered any water at all in the Spa, not even after our treatments.

Although clean, the pool was very small and disappointing, we didn’t get in to the pool or jacuzzi. Thankfully there was a relaxation room through the ladies changing room where we spent most of our time, but the Spa staff did not mention this so I’m thankful I noticed it.

Our two facials were really nice and we both left feeling refreshed, although I don’t think they were worth £96 altogether. Our two course set menu meal in the Doxford Hall restaurant was lovely.

I would not recommend Doxford Hall Spa to anyone, it’s very outdated and needs a lot of work done, however Doxford Hall itself seems lovely. It also has very pretty surrounding gardens and looks good for walks.

The hotel is really beautiful with magnificent grounds. My bedroom was large and spacious and very comfortable. The only problem was the restaurant. The food is very ordinary but the prices are London Michelin star prices. The soup I ordered was a chicken broth with ravioli, the soup was tasty but only about three table spoons worth with one small ravioli at a price of over £9, my next course was chicken at over £25. The chicken was small but OK, for that sort of price, you would expect the rest of the dish to be complimentary, the orange vegetable accompaniment was so strongly flavoured, it killed the taste of the chicken. For what they are trying to be in the restaurant, you don’t expect to see a waiter continually drinking water from a bottle in the restaurant. They are trying to be special, but they need to take the extra few steps and look at what they are doing to get there.

Stayed for four nights from 9th Aug.
CONS:
Accommodation: We booked the coach house. However, there are three, and not are all the same and the one we booked (#42) was not sold as seen on Doxford Hall website. The room was not very clean, very dusty, with cracked paint on the drawers. The toilet had a pungent smell like it had not been cleaned in a few days. We were staying for 4 nights but given one toilet roll, to get more you have to go to reception. Luckily we took our own cleaning products.
Food: Sunday dinner was diabolical, potatoes very hard, carrots tasted of vinegar, roast beef was rare. Breakfast no vegetarian option was advertised or made available. Bacon was horrible, either under cooked or over cooked to the point where it stabs the roof of your mouth. We were rushed to finish breakfast, but we declined the staff's offer to be rushed. The food is not locally sourced, which is a shame. Wednesday night, 8pm, we phoned reception to reserve a table for dinner. They said we had to be there within 5 minutes, and not be wearing shorts. Please note that Doxford Hall is literally in the middle of nowhere and is the only source of food should you not wish to drive 15 minutes or so to Seahouses. Essentially there is no room for a quick snack. The tables in the dinning area were very close not allowing for social distancing.
Tuesday evening: We were having a drink in the bar when in conversation the Bar Staff said the hotel has guests from lock down cities and towns. Not what you want to hear!
PROS:
Staff friendly.
Lovely and peaceful surroundings.
Swimming pool was good because it had to be pre-booked, for an hour at a time, so either one or two couples.
Covid-19 has nothing to do with the CONS described.

We stayed in the Gardeners Cottage in the grounds of the hotel. There were 6 of us (3 couples) and the cottage was a perfect fit, two twin bedrooms and a double room. The living room was cosy with a real fire which was lovely, decent sized dining room and an old but very clean kitchen. Downstairs bathroom which wasn’t ideal after a few beers but not the end of the World, We were all surprised how spotlessly clean the whole place was and we all agreed that we would definitely stay at the cottage again.
We ventured into Doxford Hall for afternoon tea and the use of the spa facilities. The afternoon tea was perfect and the staff were very friendly.
The spa was a strange experience, totally unattended, dirty loungers, zero towels and overall not great.
We attended breakfast in the morning at the Hall and this was a first class experience with the breakfast being well presented and tasty and the staff were very attentive.
Overall a good experience but the spa definitely needs some updating.

We’ve just returned from here after booking the “Sunday Night Special” and I have to say every member of staff we came across were lovely. Very attentive, friendly and professional. It made the stay. The spa facilities were great too. We dined in the main restaurant and after giving up meat for lent, although it was tempting to order off the main menu, we were given the choice of a vegan or vegetarian menu. The breakfast was also lovely. Great value for money we’ll definitely be back.

I inspect for a living and write reports, so I hope the owners see this as constructive. The hall has been well restored and the extension sensitivity added. Our room was generously sized and the complimentary toiletries were a nice extra. The spa needs some work, having unisex changing rooms is not good enough and doesn’t reflect the four stars. The service is changeable, the staff are not as familiar with the menu and wines as they should be. Some looked a little scruffy and down trodden. We had a drink in one of the lovely rooms before dinner and our empty glasses were still there on our return with the remnants of the afternoon teas you serve. The cushions were not plumped and there were artificial flowers everywhere making it look care home like rather than high end hotel- unless you count the dead flowers in the vases. You have a garden full of flowers, why not use those? This brings me on to the garden. Lovely initial aspect but as you walk further on there are beds full of weeds and fallen trees that need attention. A little overpriced and underwhelming I’m afraid.

We have just returned from a weekend at Doxford Hall for my 40th birthday celebrations. We stayed in a beautiful suite; Room 33 ( highly recommend) - amazing and spacious with fantastic views of the gardens and grounds. We had breakfast and dinner both days and the food was beautiful and of a very high standard. The staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. Claudiu was most helpful and attentive and on the second evening reserved us a beautiful spot by the fire for dinner - how lovely! We explored the grounds and the hotel maze and took the short drive to Bamburgh Castle which was lovely. We had the swimming pool to ourselves and I enjoyed a nice treatment. The hotel were very good re covid 19 precautions. A wonderful weekend and we would certainly return in the future! Thank you!
