Went Halloween weekend and had a fantastic time, the guide had an extensive knowledge of the history of the castle and its ghosts. The eeriness of the castle was added to by it being a dark quiet night. Would have enjoyed a longer tour and will definitely be back when possible for an over night stay. A great taster tour... Most of the rooms that can be visited are very dark, making photography difficult. There is an information leaflet in each room, but they are poorly produced, although they convey the owner's sense of humour. Some of the items in the rooms are really quite strange. There is a torture gallery, which for me, was perhaps the highlight of the... More

My husband and I are members of Chillingham Friends and have visited many times. We love the atmosphere here as well as the history associated within its walls. Well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of England. P.S. nice little cafe within castle. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The castle is privately owned and is... More

This castle is over 800 years old packed from floor to ceiling with memorabilia. Very old and original complete with torture chamber and dungeons. This is one hell of a mixture of eccentric items on exhibition. A must to visit complete with a excellent café.

My girlfriend and I were recommended to this venue by our fabulous B'n'B hostess on a Halloween weekend. Fantastic fireworks and a fun family evening would recommend it to anyone looking for ghoulish frights in a family friendly environment. Good value and well organised with some great volunteers we felt lucky to have 'stumbled' across it.

OMG...this place is absolutely amazing. It's eerie, haunting and just wonderful. I've never been in a castle quite like this one with such an eclectic mix of exhibits and things to see. It's goes from one contrast to another as you explore...from the chilling torture chambers and dungeons, to the cosy café, the hotchpotch of articles crammed into every space... More

If you like "jumble" laid out in various rooms from centuries past then this is the place for you ! The gardens I think would be nice on a warm sunny day !

This is set in beautiful countryside not too far from the cheviots. We came on an autumn day and the castle looked great. It's very odd inside though and has a weird collection of objects in every room. The torture chamber is very cool and the rooms upstairs all have strange themes. One of the main living rooms has a... Visited knowing nothing about the place. It was restored from a virtual ruin by an aristocrat with a background in antiques, and stocked with thousands of random items, some very interesting some rubbish, you need to understand this is not a reconstruction. Enjoyed the visit, amongst the other stuff lie stacks of invitations to the aristocrat himself who is a... More
