The castle is well worth a visit just o see the amazing renovation work that has been carried out. It is packed full of odds and sods, collected by the owner over many years - so much stuff that you could spend hours just trying to look at all of the items and missing the castle rooms themselves. The Castle... More

interesting medieval castle, not sure that I would want to live here though, very primitive, had a lovely lunch down in the 'basement' around a cosy roaring fire (kept the place warm)

We combined a trip to the castle with a trip to the Wild Cattle. What a great day out! The castle is the opposite of a sanitised offering from the likes of the National Trust so initially a bit surprising but ultimately better for it. We could really get the feel of what the castle must have been like in... More

Check the times of opening as the castle opens at 12 although the wild cattle open in the morning.Park in the woods and for those who are disabled park near the house.I would say this is not the place for disabled as the floors are uneven and many twisting stairs and dark dungeons .This artifacts that have been collected and... I usually like visiting quirky museums and buildings, but this one left me with an overwhelming desire to clear it all out and get it organised. Random, shambolic exhibits which did nothing to peak interest in rooms that could have been shown off to much better effect. I suspect that trading on the house's reputation for being haunted transcends the... More

We arrived at this castle not knowing its history or reputation. We enjoyed our visit. Lots of stuff everywhere which the family have collected over the generations. The castle looks like it hasn't changed over the past 100 years or so, but is well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's a good castle but it hasn't got the... More

Great stay , self catering there is lunch available on site. Got "Ron the taxi" to the Percy Arms for great pub grub. Very nice place and the room was great . Only downsides the shower is from the 1930's and I spent 20 minutes get the temperature right for the dribble of water that comes out , also needs... More

We came here really for refreshments after seeing the wonderful Chillingham Wild Cattle in the park. We saw at least two entrances and used the one near the church. 12pm is the opening time and it closes at 5pm so you only have a short window of opportunity to see the gardens, the castle and its multitude of artifacts and... Stopped here recently at this castle. It is extremely old and very dusty. Not worth the entry price though. Expensive for what it is. Nice gardens to walk around and the restaurant is worth a stop.
