Rescued from complete dereliction by an aristocratic connection of the original family chillingham castle makes a very unique tour. There is a completely oddball collection of artefacts including family historic weapons, instruments of torture, film sets random old furniture etc. But it certainly has its charms. Don't miss out the wild cattle of chillingham.

Whilst this looks a lovely castle from the outside it is a different story inside. The great hall is well laid out with great views. However other rooms just seemed too cluttered with an eccentric mix of possessions. The torture chamber is interesting but a little weird. But the setting fir the tea room is very pleasant. Not really value... More

Could, not do what had planned as weather not good. So went for a drive and just followed sign for castle. It was so good, starts with letters from people who had taken things from castle and had returned them because of castle curse. They is not a lot of security here so you have to believe in curse as would... More

We had a Groupon deal to go to Chillingham castle which was about to run out. We could not have picked a better day weather wise. It's a really beautiful drive up to Chillingham and the castle did not disappoint. It's beautiful both inside and outside and so full of history. We found it really interesting that Sir Humphrey laid... More

Not far from the much better known Alnwick Castle this castle is well worth a visit. Medieval in origin it has been lovingly restored by the present owner but in such a way that they don't mind you touching anything in the castle. It is full of allsorts of curios including an impressive collection of torture instruments! Make sure you... More

Heard about the castle from another couple and stumbled across it today. The place is very dark and the dungeons and torture chamber are excellent. The entry fee is well worth it at £9.50 although a bit more thought on the organisation would be of benefit.

Well worth a visit, with a strange eclectic collection of furniture, artefacts and interior design. This is a castle to take your time with. The dungeon is not for the faint hearted, with a collection of very nasty implements of torture. Beautiful grounds, both cultivated and wild. Have been many times and still find something new on each visit. Haven't... More

Our afternoon at Chillingham Castle passed so quickly in part due to the informative guide written by Sir Humphrey (the owner) the room guides who displayed not only a huge amount of knowledge but also a genuine love of the castle and its owner, but also due to the variety of items to see in the rooms open to the... We walked to the castle through the woodland way and that was very pleasant. It has been at least 20 yrs since I was in this castle, it's a lot more organised than my last visit. It's still quirky and if you want a different castle experience then this is the place to come. It's full of an array of... More
