About
The Tanners Arms ale house features six handpulls which carry all-local real ales, judiciously chosen, fastidiously kept and a pleasure to sup; a good selection of whiskies to warm and revive every palate; regular live music sessions of all varieties; the most eclectic jukebox in Northumberland; and most important of all, a friendly, laid-back environment full of good crack and camaraderie. A good old-fashioned English pub, and a pleasant spot to while away an evening…

Wow! lovely place for a pint!
What a fantastic little pub! Most excellent choice of ales and cider (recommend the Monument). Early evening pop in for pint. No food here, only crisps and nuts. The decoration of the single seating area is wonderful. The seating comfortable . Plenty of regulars in as well as holidaymakers. Don't go to Alnwick without calling in!

    Just perfect……..
A friendly welcome to a proper pub from the landlord set the tone for our visit yesterday. A great selection of beers well kept and it was difficult to choose which to go for but all was not lost as we had two flights….just perfect. A nice selection of people also enjoying the beers and some good interesting banter. A little gem!

A gem of a pub for real ale drinkers - best in Northumberland!
The best pub in Northumberland for beer!!! The landlord is friendly and welcoming and keen to share information about his beers, all of which come from local breweries. There is always a good selection of ales and ciders, plus the usual selection of other drinks. It doesn't serve food (just the usual bar snacks), and is only tiny inside, with tables around the edge and a beautiful tree in the middle! It is also really dog friendly (we didn't have our dog with us this time, but plenty did come in and were rewarded with a biscuit or two!). Ale flights are available - three sample 1/3 pints, so that you can try smaller portions of three different beers. My husband loved this (and loved all three beers!). It is definitely worth a visit if you like beer and cider, and want to try a real gem of a pub!

Visited Alnwick last year and found this little gem, just got home from another holiday there and visited this pub 6 days out of the 7 we stayed. Good selection of craft beers/ales, lovely little pub, great atmosphere, and if it's tight for space, lots of people were happy to budge up or share a table with a stranger. Genial host and the best damn jukebox around!

Visited twice in April 2022, early evening on both occasions. A busy little pub. Mainly local clientele, but we (my wife and I, plus dog) were made to feel very welcome. Excellent selection of beers and a good atmosphere. Will definitely visit again

Called into Alnwick for a meal at Dirty Bottles but they got hit by Covid pings. Gutted. Walking aimlessly round town when Tanners came into view. The board mentioned 6 ales so sod it! Walked into a stone floored room with a tree spreading over the ceiling. Met by a friendly landlord who talked me thru his local ales. Had a lovely session ipa and then a oaked porter. Both were excellent condition. Wish I'd known about the Tanners sooner. Well worth the visit!

What a brilliant pub. Great beers, great prices. Selection changes regular. Cozy and rather cute. Real fire and dogs welcome. Staff lovely. Wish I lived in Alnwick then it could be my regular local. Sadly I don't live here so could only visit on holiday. I would recommend anyone else on holiday in or near Alnwick to visit. If you'd like to remember what a real pub was visit. If you like to know what a real pub is, visit!

Visited this place just off the main road through Alnwick after spotting a blackboard sign on the street corner, and I'm glad we noticed it, as it led to this excellent little bar.

The place is small and cosy, but never felt crowded, and the choice of ales was fantastic. We went back almost every day of our stay and there was always something new to try.

The bar staff were very friendly and welcoming (but not in an overbearing way at all), particularly when people brought their well-behaved dogs in.

One of the best pubs I've visited in the country and easily the best in Alnwick.

My wife and I have enjoyed a two week break in Alnwick and have loved every minute of it. One of the highlights has been the time we have spent in this great pub. The Landlord, Simon, is a smashing guy who made us really welcome and provided me with lots of good advice about the superb beers that were on offer. There is a regular turnover of real ales and it was a delight sampling them. This is a pub in the real sense, there is no food, just excellent beer and a cracking juke box. The decor is excellent and the ambience is perfect. A visit is a must for anyone staying in Alnwick who likes beer.

Happened to be next door to where we stayed, but was on my TripAdivsor list of things to do.
If you enjoy a quiet hand pulled pint, this is the pub for you.
No food served, no beer garden.
Just a great wee pub.

Nice warm welcome and a lovely pub interior. Fabulous selection of exceptionally well kept real ales from local breweries. Definitely worth a visit - note extended opening hours so practical to visit during the day now.

Just spent 4 days across new year in Alnwick and discovering The Tanners Arms was a highlight. Our digs were next door to this special pub which serves a high quality selection of local real ales. The atmosphere was always convivial and we were made to feel welcome at all times. Great juke box too. One of the best boozers I’ve ever visited.
