About
RUSHDEN HISTORICAL TRANSPORT SOCIETY Along with most heritage railways we have both modest income and significant costs and our Heritage Railway is no different. HERITAGE RAILWAY Our Heritage Railway has a wide range of rolling stock and runs selected stock on event days. GOODS SHED In addition to the station buildings and track, the Society owns the Goods Shed. STATION BAR Taken over by the Rushden Historical Transport Society in 1984, the station has its own bar and club called the Station Bar. TRANSPORT MUSEUM The Transport Museum is situated in the Old Midland Railway Station of 1894 which once formed part of the Wellingborough to Higham Ferrers branch line. BUFFET CARRIAGE The Society has a Gresley Buffet Carriage that serves a range of hot and cold food on most event days. BUFFER STOP SHOP The Buffer Stop Shop has grown and can now be found on the platform next to the railway office.

Rushden railway station is on the edge of the town centre and there used to be regular trains to nearby Wellingborough. Sadly this is no longer the case and the trackbed is now available to walk or cycle on.

There is a small bit of preserved railway that runs a short distance in the opposite direction but this is not a regular service.

At the station there is information about the line and the history of it. There is also a bar here which I recommend you support to help maintain this little bit of history.

Great place with loads of character, different real ales each week. A step back in time, with gas mantles and old railway carriages , museum open on special days and rides on the train.

It's our local, and they sell real ale.
Just up the road from where I live with my partner, is the RHTH,it's set on the old station platform, with membership of just£15 a year.
Fantastic with lots of interesting people.

I recently celebrated my sisters 50th birthday with an afternoon tea on the carriage. The carriage itself is very quaint and the ladies serving us were very friendly. Everyones food looked delicious, except mine! Unfortunately the catering staff did not put in any real effort for a Vegan diet. These days you can buy everything you need for vegans in any supermarket, it’s really not difficult. Sadly I was offered four little uninspiring sandwiches, 2 scones ( I had to ask for jam) and meringues and cream which are clearly not vegan. I didn’t make a fuss as I didn’t want to spoil the family occasion but I won’t be returning and would be wary of eating here if you have a food intolerance or any dietary requirements.

I have been here a few times since moving to the area and I just don't understand the point of it. It is advertised as a museum but I am yet to find anything even vaguely informative let alone educational. I'm sorry but in my books you need a lot more than to just own a few old fire trucks and train carriages to be called a museum, educate people with the story of what those vehicles did, or at least what vehicles like those ones did!

This place is a dump! It's a scrap yard, it has a train carriage with a pub in it with a handful of locals keeping it ticking over!
I took my toddler who is transport mad and there was nothing for him to see, it's an eyesore! Something drastic needs to be done this place really has no purpose and will not get returning customers unless someone's rescues it, at the minute the one point to it is a local boozer! Very disappointing!

The station could be a great place for train enthusiasts but it is now getting too cluttered and confusing with all the old carriages they keep buying and odd engines and vehicles. The open days are ok but its gone down hill over the past few years.

After nearly 2 years it was great to see the hard work of the volunteers in getting this mixed Heritage Museum open again and welcoming visitors. It's places like this that bring the history to us today, without them so much is lost

Was visiting Higham & Rushden for the weekend and had a little walk around this old station. It's fantastic to have a little walk around and view the old trains, there's also a small museum and a pub attached to the platform. Would love to visit on an event day as I think the atmosphere would be really good.

Very interesting place to visit. And will come again. Well worth it. Like stepping back in time to an era when things were not so rushed, though im sure they were.
